UVD/Purevideo + HTPC confusion

Well, I thought the quest for making a HD Vista Media HTPC would be pretty straightforward, but nope, it wasn't to be. I hadn't realised that UVD doesn't work with WMP only PowerDVD which pretty much defeats the object of using Media Centre.

So, would it be possible to use a Nvidia card instead, does their version of HD decoding work seamlessly with WMP? Or, has UVD finally been integrated with WMP?

Seems pretty pointless to purchase a ATi GFX card only to have the HD decoding done by the processor when using WMP.

Or, am I completely misinformed?!

Apparently Vista media centre has some issues with some HD media formats but not all so, I beleive its a vista thing not a card or video driver thing. It will be fixed.

You will need the right codec to use any SD or HD content with hardware acceleration. Default codecs if supplied are rearly fully featured so getting the right one and enabling its added features in all programs is allways an issue and often requires a control panel or codec switching utility. Still on XP MCE 2005 after dabbling with vista premium myself.

By default vista mediacentre cant make use of the hd decoding functions of Avivo/UVD . you need to install the windvd/powerdvd (maybe neroshowtime) software for the mediaplayer to make use of the hd accelerated functions. image quality difference is massive. crappy looking washed out default codec (looks like naff vmr9) or sharp/clear/vibrant images (resembling hardware overlay quality)
