Wanted to go and see mavity on an IMax screen, but the BFI is too busy to get tickets.

Any thoughts on the IMax in Uxbridge?

I'm not sure but I think its just a large VUE screen but with the movie shown in the dimensions of an IMAX screen. It'll be smaller than the BFI one but I haven't actually stepped foot into the others to tell you how much smaller.

Here is a listing of all the IMAX screens across the UK, depending on position in London there's one in the Wimbledon Odeon & Swiss Cottage showing mavity.

Not entirely sure screen size is everything? ie: I'd rather be closer to a smaller screen with clarity, than further away from a bigger screen... if that makes sense!?

I've heard Swiss Cottage is a small screen?! Thing is Uxbridge is easy for me to get to!

Personally prefer swiss cottage.

But Uxbridge isn't bad - mind you I haven't been in that since early in the year so can't remember the specifics.

Does it (Uxbridge) actually feel like a superior experience to a regular screen? Looking at the seating layout it looks smaller than our local regular screens.

That said, if the image is better/clearer, I don't care how big the screen is I guess!

There is an Imax in Kingston near me and compared to the Waterloo BFI one it's hardly a step up compared to a regular screen.

I'm worried people are saying things like this simply due to screen size. My worry is sitting 100ft away from a huge screen, in reality is no different to sitting 50ft away from a smaller screen. ie: The net visuals could be the same...

I have seen both full size Imax and (it so happens ) the one in Uxbridge, and they are both comparable experiences. You sit closer to the smaller screen (it's obviously in a smaller cinema), but it does fill your vision with a high definition image that is very detailed and immersive.

So while the four-storey-tall-screen experience is impressive, you don't really need it to get that in-your-face Imax experience.

Thank you!

Yeah uxbridge is more cosy from what I remember - also good chance of it being very empty at off peak times, for a more private experience.

This is true. Last couple of times I got to a cheap matinee showing there, I shared the cinema with less than a dozen other people. It's almost like having your own private Imax screen!

I remember going to see Avatar there - literally had the whole back row to myself, it was wonderful. And the rest of it was almost empty.

Only thing better was in swiss cottage I was one of two people in the entire cinema for the recent star trek - ok film was not mind blowing but still, private cinema! :D
