V+ on the way - is it possible to install multiroom without an engineer?

Hi all

I have a V+ box on the way and was wondering if it is possible to stick my current 'normal' digibox upstairs and use the multiroom facility with the current smart card. The cabling is already set up as the previous owners had multiroom.

Virgin said that an engineer had to attend - is that because there needs to be some kind of handshake for the second box, or is it just an official line designed to extract more moolah from poor me?

Many thanks for any knowledge.

Sorry, I have no idea about the self installs. We had the V+ fitted when it first came out and had to be done by an engineer. The existing box was then moved upstairs and continued working (same card, no handshake, etc).

Whenever we have had a new box installed, the engineer always needs to ring through to a call centre to activate the box.

I have to call to activate the new V+ box when it arrives, but I'm talking about the old box that I've had for ages and that is already activated.

If the connection is already there then you can connect the box and it'll work.

My friend at uni took his Virgin box from home and connected it up at his rented house as it had a Virgin connection.

Hi Robbie,

If/when the engineer arrives, He will have to remove the old STB, unless you have stated to VM that you want to keep the old box.

Also the Engineer needs to check signal's from the coax point where you'd like the normal stb, and pair the card and box together.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Alan.

Since I'm going for self install of the V+ box to save £20, they apparently send me a box to post the old box back to them in. I'm just talking hypothetically here.

The card and box should already be paired together, as I'm watching them right now ;).

Thanks for your information.

Hmm I work for Avonline (sub) for VM. Im unaware of the Quickstart Pack for a V+. If thats the case, once you pair the V+ box, the normal stb package will be removed.

Ok cheers Alan.

PS - you work for a Virgin subbie and were unaware of the option of a V+ self install?! Makes me wonder what I'm actually going to get in the post on Tuesday! :p
