V-Sync Causes mouse lag? (5970)

Hi all,

Just managed to get my new PC sorted and setup but when playing games I've noticed that when I enable vsync (especially in MW2) I get really bad mouse lag?

My specs are very good so I have no idea whats causing the issue, is there a way to fix this?

I really notice the effect with tearing when its turned off

I didnt notice it on my old GPU (Nvidia) is this just an ATI problem or something to do with my hardware?

I've tried tripple buffering enable but this hasnt really made much difference.

Specs:

5970 XFX Black Edition (10.3pre Drivers)
I7 920 D0
Asus Rampage II
Cosair Memory 800W
6 Gig RAM
Windows 7
Dell 24" 2405FP (60hz)
Razr Mamba - Latest Firmware

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Cheers!
TD

Yeah I've gone through google for the past hour but didnt really find any solutions to it :(

I've tried downloading ATI tray tools and changing the Flip Queue size from 0 -6 but haven't noticed any difference in game...

This seems to be affecting all my games though , CSS, TF2 and MW2

Got to Control Panel > Mouse.
Click on the Pointer Options tab.
Reduce your Pointer Speed by half, and if the "Enhance Pointer Precision" checkbox is checked, uncheck it.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

I had this same problem when I use to play Dead Spacce. ok so I am using an nvidia card not ATI, but the solution should be the same.

Leave the v-sync setting in the game OFF. And using the ATI control center to force v-sync on the game instead. See if this will work for you.

Tried this didn't make any difference :(

I tried this and it works fine however it doesn't seem to be forcing v-sync on in game?

When I check the FPS its above 100 which wouldn't be possible if v-sync was on?

v-sync has always resulted in slight mouse lag, regardless of whether acceleration is tuned off or not (which it always should be!). Someone mentioned that triple buffering might help - I haven't tried that tho.

Get used to the tearing or let your twitch aim suffer - one of the two.

Isn't this a multi-GPU issue? try just disabling Crossfire and see if that helps, it's not a solution but at least you might know the cause.

You are using D3Doverrider to enable triple buffering arn't you?

Argh wish I knew about this before I ordered the 5970, it is a huge delay at least 1-2 seconds after I move the mouse.

Yeah I tried that :(

Would my monitor limited to 60hz have anything to do with it?

Doubt it. You have disabled all the usual mouse smoothing options etc in game if available?
Also have vysnc and triple buffer enabled in d3doverrider.
Also what mouse do you use and have you installed the software for it?

It shouldn't be a huge delay - but multi GPU has always made the input delay from vsync more apparent.

Even worse case tho the delay shouldn't be more than 100ms top, if its in seconds something is badly wrong.

Sorry if this has already been posted in this thread, I have only read the first few replies.

In terms of the mouse lag, I got that really bad in MW2 and I fixed it by turning on mouse smoothing within the game itself.

As I said sorry if its already been posted but hope it helps if not.

Cheers.

Have you tried disabling Crossfire to see if it helps? it could still be something else I was just aware that Crossfire causes more lag than single GPU solutions.

Can someone tell me how I can disable crossfire on a 5970? I didn't think it was possible with the 5970 unless you have 2 cards together..

This appears to be happening in ALL games as well even in css :(

I've tried disabling mouse acceleration mouse, enable/disable smooth mouse in game this doesnt seem to have any effect.

Also tried a different mouse to rule out, D3DOverrider and setting Flip queue size but this doesnt seem to have any effect either :(

Right so after messing around for hours on end I've come up with a solution...

If I limit my FPS to 59 either in any source game while vsync is ON the lag goes! None what-so-ever...

Is there such a program that will LIMIT your fps in all games? Sounds stupid I know especially on a 5970! But MW2 and some other games I play don't appear to have a set MAX FPS.
