Hi,

I'm being given a car by my Auntie who is moving to Spain.

She has given me all of the documentation to look over before she leaves (In order I can get paperwork sorted)... Not confident with this stuff so thought I'd ask.

I've got a V5 and a V5c... Now I've found the V5 is the "old" style and "V5c" is the "new" european style... Do I need to get both sent off? If not wont I end up with one V5 in her name and one (Which will be newly sent to me) in my name?

Or do I need to destroy one? Or just keep it safe?

What do I do in this case, having two V5's?

Cheers.

Nothing interesting... Rover Metro 100 :p ... Bit of a step down from my current (Still not so brilliant!) Mazda 323F '95... Still MOT soon due on the Mazda and I know it'll need work. I'm definitely better having the "worse" car for another year til insurance starts dropping and getting a good car then...

Ahh I will have to see the beast Dan. :p Whats up with the 323?

I think you just send off the new style from memory, though I hope someone else will come along and agree.

Not much is wrong with the 323 than before but I was suprised it passed before its MOT before... Don't think I'd be so lucky a second time around. If I sell the 323 for a small amount, save about £500 on the insurance between the two cars, better fuel economy... I should be making a saving.

Having said that - Not looking forward to the downgrade... Even the limited "goodies" (Electric windows for example... And power steering :p) will be missed... Nor the decrease from 1.5 to 1.1 :o :( Meh.

yea but remember the metro weighs about as much as a tin of beans

You never know, I think the 323 might get through the mot. Worth a try, could be a good idea to use the place I do, they seem fair.

haha I used a 'fair' place last time, glad I did as my handbrake got no where near the pass mark :p

Yup this place passed me with a sticking caliper, trusted me to get a new one, of course new one was ordered as soon as I got home.

Need to find somewhere that won't touch my carbs to make it pass the emissions, cause I am having them setup on a rolling road, don't want some guy changing them with not much if a clue.

So you are getting rid of a 323 there is not much wrong with to get a Rover Metro becuase the 323 is due an MOT?

The 323 has some bad sounds coming from it which I'm pretty sure (I'm no mechanic... Ask saitrix :p) means money... Add this on to new the new tyres it needs... And MOT & tax (Due at the same time as MOT) and it'll cost say (Easy numbers).. Dunno.. At least £200? Meanwhile if I sell the 323 as it is now I reckon I might be able to *get* say £200 for it... So the net difference is £400 up.

Insurance quotes on Rover come in at approx £1k and 323 approx £1.5k... Another £500 saving there.

I understand it may not make *that* much sense but I got the Mazda for free and now the Rover for free... If I can sell the Mazda then I've had a years "free" motoring (Bar insurance) and hopefully if I do the same this year with the Rover (Which will be £500 cheaper) then maybe next year (When I'll hopefully have 2 yrs NCB) I'll go out there and buy a car I actually want (As opposed to one I just get given).

My Uncle has always maintained my Aunties car well and with the state of the two cars running the Rover seems the better option. I have to commute to University each day so reliability of getting A->B is far more important than anything else at this time (Yep, motoring on a shoe string!).

Meanwhile, does anybody have a definitive answer as to the original question? I'd tend to find what's already said to be most logical (Just use the V5c) but will there be any problems arise when it ends up I have one V5 in my Aunties name (On the paperwork) and one V5c in my name (On the paperwork)?

Cheers.

Dan, I will have a look at it if you want? Try and work out whats up with it exactly. I bet you can get cheaper quotes on the Mazda than that, afterall you will be 20 and 1ncb, should be £1k or less. Where you been trying?

Havn't had a real check for quotes yet... Due to having to take a new policy out 'cos of the Hastings faff I'm now insured until summer sometime (When I should get my ncb). If I drive the Rover I'll just be changing the current insurance policy to cover the Rover and remove the 323. The quotes of £1000 and £1500 I use are what I'm tied into now and what it should drop to.

I did a quick search and the Rover should drop to ~£650 (I think) TPFT but not tried the Mazda. By the time renewal comes I'll have had to make the decision which I'm sticking with anyway.

Thanks for the offer to have a look at it, and hopefully will be able to take it up some time... But for now at least I think I'm going to have to seriously consider changing to the Rover. It may not make a lot of sense (Though it does in my head) but I don't mind too much and it seems the easiest way to go at the moment...

We'll see anyway - Need to get the V5 sorted before I even have the choice :p

The Rover Metro is a terrible, terrible car and it's not known for its reliability.

The Mazda 323 is an ugly car, but it's very reliable and half decent.

What on earth are you doing.
