Looking at V70's as they seem a really nice car and suitable for what we want;

Big (5 full car seats)
Fast (will cruise @ 100 with no issue)
Reliable
Up to £3500

So some questions realistically the price range been looking at means a 98-02 ish. I had a go in a 2.5turbo SE and seemed really nice however the mileage was 130k.

Now at this sort of mileage I don't normally worry (6 of our 7 cars we have bought have been 100k+) however I'm guessing the volvo costs more to fix general things or is that a misconception?

With regards to the turbo would it be cheaper/more reliable [running wise insurance isn't actually that different] to get a non turbo one? I know they are a fair bit slower however that's not a real issue, obviously I would like the quickest possible though.

Or are there any similar cars that would be suitable?

130k is barely run-in for a V70, assuming it's had basic maintenance carried out. Dealers charge extortionate amounts for repairs, but that's nothing new - find a decent indep or do it yourself and it'll be no more expensive than the equivalent German box. Can't comment on the turbo, you may want to ask at the owners club.

For reference on the price, we picked up a '98 S80 2.9 with 120k for £1700 a few months back - might be worth considering one of these if having an estate isn't essential.

I've been looking at these also and TBH £3500 will get you a from 2000 - 2004. I wouldn't even look at the older shape ones, very old looking and a horrid interior.

Avoid the Auto's unless you want 23mpg ! also the D5's are expensive when they go wrong and I'd avoid them all together unless you really need to do 40ish mpg.

I'm asuming your looking at the 200 bhp low pressure turbo version, which isn't really any cheaper to run than the 250ish version and similar to insure.

I don't think they're really any more to fix or for parts than say a ford unless you take it to the stealers. Their are loads of really good clubs and forums about that can help you too.

Let me know if you get one as I'll hopefully be looking for one in around Feb to March time.

I went from the 2 accord type r's to a phase 2 V70 T5 auto with gear tronic , leather , climate , 9 speaker dolby system blah blah because we needed the space and I dont think you will get a better car for chucking all the gear in

You can get the 2 extra rear seats to turn it into a 7 seater for less than £150 aswell

I picked up one from a forecourt with 104k on the clock and fvsh that was marked up at £2700 but needed a tax and a few tyres so there are cheap ones to be had

Main issue with the T5 is the abs ecu module goes wrong but you can do a home repair if your good with a soildering iron (still need to get mine fixed)

They are great in the front (I've got an S60 T5) but not so good for the folks in the back who tend to slide around a bit if you are driving vigorously.

No true, that would make sense.....unless you were wearing your seat-belts! :) Sorry, I had to ;)

Not allowed to sell cars on here buddy .

Will be thinking of selling if everything goes well with Beths op next year at it wont be needed so much for the space
