V8 kit - Questions

Hi,

I am looking to get into water cooling, as a first timer I have read various threads & and watched numerous videos and am pretty confident that with care, just focusing on the CPU to begin with I could set this up.

I recently bought a Phanteks ph-tc14pe, top air cooler admittedly, but ever since purchasing i've been regretting chickening out of going for a water cooled setup.

Before I dive in though, I have a few questions:-

In real world scenarios, how much better would something like the V8 kit be over the Phanteks, under both normal and overclocked settings.

I understand you have to change the fluid every 6 months, with the V8 kit this comes with Mayhems fluid, I presume therefore all I need to do is drain the loop every 6 months, and refill with more mayhems. Aside from that what else needs maintenance and at what frequency?

Is the V8 kit the best purchase option for £190, or are there better options out there for the same cost?

What colour Mayhems would suit a Sabertooth 990FX? :) Currently fitted to a CM Storm Trooper chassis, with no LED's, so essentially it's a matt black case with "military" colours on the motherboard.

Initially I will be cooling an 8350, so the V8 kit will actually cost more than the CPU :D, there is method in the madness as I am considering a switch to Intel when Haswell is out later in the year (or IB-E), so this is a good place to start I think, and allows me to play around until then.

Thanks for any help,
Chris.

8 pack did a comparison of the v8 vs h100, considering the phanteks isn't quite on par with the h100 you should easily be looking in the region of a 10c+ drop in temps.

As for fluid changes that pretty much sums it up, drain, refill and you're good to go. Besides the occasional fluid change they are pretty much maintenance free.

Colour is down to the end user, pick what you like :)

Thanks for this, and I can just refill with mayhems each time, no need for anything different?

What would be a good starter fluid to get me going? I don't want to faff around, so just looking for something I can put in the res and leave, I looked at the aurora supernova clear but upon reading this is designed more for show than home use.

I did my 1st WC setup about 2 months back, i went for the Mayhems pre mixed fluid i would maybe suggest going down the same route.

Ok, so if I go for Mayhems Aurora - Supernova Clear Coolant 1L, is that completely compatible with the V8, and would I need to add anything, or is it "ready to pour".

Thanks,
Chris.

I would advise against a first time user going for aurora, it's show fluid and not designed for long term use.

Stick to x1 or pastel premix and your good to go :)

Don't bother with mayhems, go for something that is actually designed for long term use and won't clock up your blocks/stain your tubing.

EC6 is good and will last for 2 years potentially.
