I have just found out that I am allergic to dust mites, currently have a plugin bad upright vacuum cleaner but maybe need something a little better.

On a budget of £150, is there anything that would do the job better to cut down on these little buggers?

My vote would be with a Sebo - I don't have any specific allergies, but I am incredibly sensitive to dust and suchlike and it sets me off like hay fever.

My Sebo deals with all that and animal hair without skipping a beat. Very impressed and would replace with another if the need arose.

EDIT: And they have shot up in price since I bought... blows your budget completely, sorry!

Anything with a HEPA filter really.

We have a Miele S8330 which I think has now been replaced by a C3...very happy with the product although it is double the budget it will outlast any £150 vacuum and be cheaper in the long run!

+1 for Miele.

There’s also the C2 Allergy and the C1 Allergy. I have no idea how the C1 is, but we have had the non allergy predecessor of the C2 for a few years now and it’s great. Originally bought for our 1 bed, does our 3 bed fine.

For allergens you want a cannister vacuum with the relevant filters.

Mielle would be my recommendation and is what I personally own. They've got a wide range of options, I got a deal on a compact eco model with filtration as required. Was within yourself budget.

Something like a Dyson stick will offer little to no filtration of allergens.

Our Miele has around 4 different filters and the bag...no dust getting out of this badboy!

I was always the one to go out and buy the cheaper alternatives where ever possible, always ending up spending much more in the long run.

Since owning our Miele my parents went through a cheap Tesco vac, and a VAX, in the end they stumped up and got a Miele and been over the moon with it...again they wish they had just got that in the first place!

Got hayfever and dust mite allergies myself and family, tried the mieles and panasonics and other high end vacs with hepa filters, yes they are more powerful due to being corded the hepa filters are large so should capture a lot of dust but I can't use an Miele or corded vac, once you use a cordless Dyson you can't go back you can literally clean in a fraction of the time it takes a corded vac.

Also most top end dysons also have hepa filters like v8 absolute and others, I empty mine out on my daily runs and don't sneeze or have issue.

I would also invest in some decent dust mite spray and spray beds, mattresses and pillows or get dust mite protector sheets. You can also vac the bedding for
dust ( I use my dyson v8 and always find some dust!) you can use essential oils mixed together or tree tea oil, lemon etc. Wash all clothes, bedding @ 60 degree etc

Choice is yours maybe check the vacs websites some may offer a 30 day trial peroid, dyson have currently, but I would keep an eye out on the dyson ebay
refurb store, lots of bargains at times.

Shark are an excellent brand - not sure about how good filtration is but they do have HEPA filters in them, and their suction could easily take on a bagged cleaner.

Don't buy dyson stuff, it's all branding and not much in the way of performance - their filters clog often, their suction drops over time and they're prone to falling apart.

Cordless are only useful for spot cleaning - anything more and you'll run out of battery as you'll be repeatedly moving over the same spot as they miss quite a lot.

We've just this week replaced our dyson with a shark duoclean, to say we were surprised as to how much such it has was an understatement. It filled the tank just from hoovering 1 room. Its also meant to be really good for not letting dust out although we got the £200 one so possibly a bit out of your budget.

From googling that looks like a cordless, was the dyson you replaced also a cordless?

We have a Henry for the weekly vacuum and a Dyson Cordless for the daily stuff, very happy with both. Got the Dyson Cordless from their ebay refurb shop using a code.

Wish the Henry had a HEPA though
