Hello chaps,

I'm thinking that a vacuum sealer could be quite handy, and have been researching the best options. Budget is about £100.
I've mainly been looking at the one below -

Foodsaver V2860
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...oliid=I1SXEONR2N6Q6E&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl

There's also this one, but not sure if it's worth the extra

Foodsaver FSFSSL3840-060

What's everyone using and what would would they recommend?

Despite the good reviews for the Andrew James models I have my reservations.

I have a wild card option for you.

I had an AJ one (this one) and it burnt out after having used it a handful of times. Sadly it was outside warranty, so they told me to do one when I asked for a refund/exchange. I looked at other models to replace it, but wasn't convinced by any (either too expensive, or too cheap looking).

Then I spotted this on kickstarter, and ordered one from the US amazon site. Basically haven't felt the need to replace it since. Works with standard sandwich bags for normal food sealing, and for sous vide I use these as I know they're considered to be safe for cooking with.

The first one looks like it has foam seals. From personal experience I would make sure that which ever one you buy that you can get spare seals. I've had to change the seals on my Andrew James one, partly through misuse by myself but I'm convinced even with careful use the seals will extrude and lose shape over time.

My SousVide Supreme has foam seals and they're absolutely fine - and I've used it very frequently over the last year.

Store the Vacuum opened so that the seals aren't squashed whilst it's being stored and they'll be fine.

I've abused my vaccum sealer massively and the seals have been fine - might just be luck of the draw.

Which one is it that you use?

I'm still really undecided about whether the Foodsaver is worth twice the price of the Andrew James. They all get very good reviews!

Got an Andrew James at the moment, it's ok. But I would say it's essential to have one which is designed for liquids and also has built in storage/roller for the bags.

So yes I would very much say it's worth the price over Andrew James, Andrew James is a very basic which can't do a huge amount, not that it's bad. But it could do with more features.

Foodsavers are also highly rated. When I searched for a better one they nearly always topped the recommended lists.

Where do you guys buy your vac bags for sous vide from? im running low and this is my first time restocking, having different sizes would be handy.

Nisbits also have free delivery on any size order through January so great for stocking up on sous vide bags/rolls and other bits and pieces. ;)
