As in the title really, I've had problems with my car being hesitant under accelleration and not revving above 5200rpm. Had it diagnosed and it turns out there's a fault with the "Hall Generator" which is apparently something to do with the cams.

Can anyone shed some light on the matter for me?

The car is a mk4 Golf 1.6 8v

A hall sensor is a type of magnetic pickup which is used on some VW engines to sense cam phasing. This is required in order to be able to run sequential injection and (where used) individual coil packs.

Was the cam sensor the only error code logged?

That and the power steering pressure, but that was reset and re-diagnosed and didn't return.

The fault codes were:
022D - PAS pressure
203 - Hall Generator

Is this an easy / cheap fix?

May have better luck on one of the Audi/VAG website forums mate, its a bit of a specialist thing to be asking on here I would think.
Certainly I know on RS246.com they have a whole forum dedicated to just VAG-COM, as do Audi-Sport

Yeah I've got another thread up on ukmkiv's forum and they are useless - it's such a slow moving forum and answers are few and far between.

I was just hoping that some clued up person here could help me :)

Possible Causes

* Wiring to Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40) faulty
* Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40) Installation faulty
* Camshaft Timing Out of Specification
* Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40) faulty
Possible Solutions

* Check Wiring to Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40)
* Check/Replace Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40)
* Check Camshaft Timing
* Check/Replace Engine Control Module

Didnt you just have your cambelt replaced????
