hi, i've just had a new vaillant ecotek boiler and vmart thermostat, the thermostat is meant to slow boiler down as it reaches temp then keep radiators warm to maintain heat. it has a 2 week learning period but after 3 days it is on or off, has anyione any experiencce withthis system?

After a quick look it does appear to offer full modulation similar to how Opentherm works on other thermostats. I don't have experience with this system, but with modulating systems you do definitely notice the difference, for instance heating first coming on in the morning the radiators get screaming hot full boiler temp of 70c for mine, as the temp of the zones gets within about 1c of the target temps it stops heating the water and just pumps it round, when the target is reached the boiler will then fire up at say 28c for instance (on mine it depends how many rooms are demanding heat, on mine you can view each zones demand as a percentage and the total demand asked of the boiler), it will constantly run at this temp until something changes.
It did take a few weeks to settle, up until that point temperatures overshot or it took a long time to reach a target temp. Now my rooms typically get up to temperature within 10-15 minutes of the heating coming on.
Its also learnt how early it needs to come on and switches off early if it knows that room will stay at the temp on its own for X amount of time.

So if yours isn't acting kind of like that i would guess something isn't working as it should.

started modulating last night. it is brilliant constant warmth, it was still a bit up and down but very good, so far veruy impressed

Interesting thread, please keep us updated as I'm looking at one of these.

Moved into a new house about two months ago and it has a Vaillant ecoTec 831 plus installed but it uses a very basic Honeywell remote digital thermostat (doesn't even have 7 day programming) and an on/off 24hr timer built into the boiler front.

I've checked the boiler and it does have the ebus connections the vsmart needs.

to update. i have turned down the heating a little as the house has warmed through due to the constant warm radiators, plus the cold spots have disappeared.

just be patient with it as it might go through a cold cycle. i have just had a new vsart installed as last one didnt get to temp but new one working like a dream, radiators getting very hot.

Would be interested to find out if you're still happy with VSmart after nearly 2 years from installation. I wonder how relaible it has been in terms of the server? Or any other issues.

Seems like the only way to go with Vaillant Ecotech boilers.

Thanks
