As tempting as the 3 courses for a tenner from Tesco is, I'll be cooking my girlfriend a nice meal. Fellow cooks, what are you cooking for your significant others?

I'm planning on Sole Veronique for main course, followed by New York Cheesecake with a fruit coulis or a pavlova.

No idea what to do for starter, maybe baked brie or something like that.

What are you going for?

A nice bottle of red wine (see location). But I have no guest, I'm dining alone.

Sorry for the troll reply.

What's a significant other *forever alone*
I think it's important t do something she will really like and enjoy, not be to filling or heavy and no strings tastes like garlic.

Sea foods always good for a starter if she likes it. Like a squid salad

Years ago, i found a recipe in an old Floyd on France book, and its become a favourite to cook on Velentines day.

Veal Escalopes in a cream and cider sauce.
And some chocolate puddings for dessert, I never do a starter,
So not really contributing to the thread, but i might be inspired by some recommendations. :)

Don't want to spend too much time in the kitchen on the 14th so can spend some quality time with the missus. My plan is simple and effective.

1. Some good NZ Sauvignon.
2. Scallops on pea puree to start.
3. Baked cod with chorizo, cherry tomatoes and sherry for main.
4. GU Key Lime Pies for dessert (if required).

The starter and main are an absolute doddle to prep and cook. Cheating on the dessert but they are amazing.

Planning on:

Starter: Antipasti (ie, whatever I can get from the deli on Tuesday)
Main: Ossobuco with black garlic risotto
Dessert: An affogato take on tiramisu that I've not quite figured out yet
Wine: Probably just Prosecco

Bit poncey, but it's stuff I know she likes.

Girlfriend doesn't believe in Valentines day, so It's a Tuesday right? Both busy that day, so good old 241 with boiled rice and a 245 with chips from the local chinese place. Although we do share it all, is that romantic?

as with most of these day's it's all commercialized now and totally lost the whole point of it all.

easter, valentines, mothers day, fathers day, birthdays, christmas, anniversaries, etc, basically marketed towards sheep so they can get even more money off them that they woundn't usually spend.

dinner in a restaurant - £15 a head, same dinner on valentines day is £25-£35 a head.

if your smart and want to go out for "valentines" day then usually best to just go out at the weekend after it, or do it at home

Did mine last night.

Starter: A sharing platter or seafood and cured meat (Scallops, Langoustines, Smoked Mackerel, Chorizo, Parma Ham and a couple of peppers stuffed with ricotta).
Main: Turbot with Scallops, mixed veg and herbs (Raymond Blanc's Kitchen Secrets)
Desert: Caramelised Pears with Fruit Sorbet (The Family Meal by Ferran Adria).

Dead easy to be honest and hit the mark; she loves fish and seafood but isn't too keen on red meat.

No way would I buy pre-made for Valentines Day, plus I hate going out on the day as it's typically poor service and expensive mediocre food.

Having a roast with some sort of soup to start (probably sweet potato) and trying to think of what to make for dessert. Am thinking coffee cake :)

Going out to our favorite Indian restaurant at the weekend though :)
