Im no fanboy, had all the consoles and looking forward to the ps3 to come out just to see what its like, theres a lot of people saying the ps3 is gonna whip the 360, but I read the following in a 360 magazing and wondering if this bloke has a valid point, his argument went somthing like this:

People are saying the ps3 will be more powerfull because sony are taking more time with it, but wasnt the specification and finalisation made of the componets around the same time as the x360 ages ago?. I remember that when the consoles were being shown off at E3 the spec of the ps3 boasted the power of 2x 6800gt's running in sli, and these cards are now old generation. Yes Sony is taking more time releasing the ps3 but they are sitting on old tecnology now that is ageing all the time while the world of graphics moves on. The short time difference between the 360 and ps3 console components being finalised was too short for any hardware technology to be so much more advanced than the other that it would give a real world visual difference in performance.

I never thought of it like that and seems a valid point to me, what does everyone else think

I've read that the PS3 will have more grunt than the 360 (processor wise), but the GFX capabilities will be similar.

The impression that I get is that at the very end of their lives, the PS3 will probably push the bar a bit higher than the 360. But hey - I don't know yet! :p

We've had this discussion many times before.

I don't think it's going to be a massive leap in technology. Even if it is significantly better the games will still be the same between the two of them as they will be mostly multiplatform releases.

PS2 is older than the Xbox.
Xbox doesn't have ICO or Shadow of Collosus.

Power doesn't mean a whole lot, games do. Both will have great games.

well didnt MS have a working version of the 360 months before sony even finalised the cell?

I see the PS3 having the longer life, i mean i still look at some of the PS2 games and i am genuinly gobsmacked as to how good they are holding up. Yet xbox games game in looking great and didnt really improve much over the years if i am being honest.
Its one of the good things with using a different type of architecture i suppose.
But either way xbox 360 will have some great games, the PS3 will have great games.
From a presonal stand point looking at games on the 360 and games for the PS3 and known sony franchises, i still get more excited over PS3 games than i do the 360 games.
For the 360 i am only really looking forward to gears of war, PGR4 and Forza 2, Ninja Gaiden, hopefully a jade empire
But the PS3 will be MGS, GT4, Ratchet and clank, Jak and daxter, Socom, God of War! probably first release of the next GTA.
Either way life looks great for us gamers ;)

If you mean, they cut down the Cell from its original spec then you'd be right :)

i get the impression that Sony are making a console (PS3) that will last a long time again like the PS2 has. I also get the impression that MS will release another console in 5 years time which this time will be smack bang in the middle of the ps3 cycle lifespan, which in effect could wipe Sony of the map if the next nextgen makes the PS3 look really bad as Sony won't be able to recoup its profits on the PS3 for a fair few years yet.
Then again i could be talking a load of rubbish, lol

You think the PS3 will last 7-9 years? No chance. Another lineup of Next-Gen in 2010.

According to what Sony was saying previously then yes it will :D

In reality then it probably wont be the case.

Probably gonna be a Xbox/PS2 thing e.g. the Xbox showed it true power later on

It certainly isnt going to blow the 360 away like Sony say it will.

Shouldn't that be the other way round?

I've always regarded the XBOX as being more graphically impressive than the PS2 with later PS2 titles such as MGS3/Burnout Revenge showing what the PS2 can actually do.

Pretty much agree with you there + Black on the PS2 really impressed me.
I believe Sony's PS3 seems to be generating more of a buzz than the 360 ever did - there's more eagerness for it's release.

Really? At the moment I would say it's the opposite.
