I tried the demo of this last night and it seems pretty good so I might go and get it tomorrow.

But before I do, i've had a read of some reviews and it all seems fine. But I thought i'd get some peoples personal opinions on it.

So anybody here have it? Is it good?

Yeah I've got it. I actually bought it when it got released but never got round to playing it. Been playing it a little bit over the christmas period and it's brilliant, really enjoying it so far up to chapter 4 in it and would recommend it to anyone who like turn based RPG's.

I got it for xmas, i'm loving it. The storyline is a little cheesy at first and the voice acting isn't the best ever. However you can use the original japanese voice overs which are of a much higher quality (more emotion etc), and makes it feel more anime like.

The gameplay is more of whats in the demo just on a larger scale, also the customization of your squad actually becomes quite complex with things like the ability to change the weapon each individual character has (when there's 20 characters in your squad that allows for some serious variation).

I assume when you use the Japanese voices, you still get English subs?

Yes but funnily enough you can disable them if you choose for that authentic Japanese feel!

When i switched it to Japanese at first i forgot to re enable subtitles so i ended up watching a whole cut scene just being confused 0_o

This is one of the few benefits of having a JRPG on Blu-Ray disc, the ability to switch languages, that is of course if the developers implement it and so big thumbs up for SEGA to do that.

I just love everything about this game, especially from the artstyle perspective. The CANVAS engine is great for that Studio Ghibli look, and puts it above many other similar cel-shaded JRPG games. The music is great too and if your a fan of Hitoshi Sakimoto's works, you can definately recognise his style here. I do love how some tracks have a nod to the music from Skies of Arcadia.

The most important question of course: How does it compare to Final Fantasy? :p

In terms of overall enjoyment i would say it isn't (yet?) as good as FFVII/VIII/X but is better than IX and XII. The storyline isn't too engrossing at present but it's early days yet. Obviously the gameplay is completely different what with it being a tactical RPG as opposed to a more standard RPG like FF

The most important question of course: How does it compare to Final Fantasy? :p

Seeing as Valkyria Chronicles has a different theme, an alternate 1930's European world, and gameplay, Tactical RPG with some real-time elements, it shouldn't even be compared to a Final Fantasy game at all.

Even if you were to compare them in terms of epic scale or quaility of the storyline, again, they are different.

Its a misconception i fell for too, thinking it played in a standard JRPG fashion. In reality its more like an RTS with the story in place of a briefing and missions being the combat'

Very unique though, just picked it up cheap and am loving it so far.

Just got to the emotional bit D:

Been a while since i've played a RPG with such well done voice acting, typically when games developers try to pull off a shocking/sad moment it ends up being cheesy. Imo in this they pulled it off perfectly. This game is pretty much an anime show in a game, it even has the silly optional side-chapters that have nothing to do with the main storyline but are typically quite funny and build upon the characters backgrounds.

Nice to hear the voice actor who dubbed Spike in cowboy bebop in there too, great voice actor.

14 hours in and no sign of the ending yet.

Also sampled this demo, tried to nab the game at £19.99 at gamestation but its sold out ^^; .Anyway, the demo was exactly what I needed to wake me up. I was really getting tired of the same old genres flooding the market. Prince of Perisa for instance is just plain dull.

It will keep you on your toes, believe it or not even each individual mission is varied. For example early on you have a stealth mission where you have to carefully kill units without being seen by searchlights, another is a mission where you have to move quickly and disable tanks before they can start their engines and finally my most recent mission is a beach landing where you have to use smoke grenades or tanks to provide cover from pillboxes for the foot soldiers as they progress.

Fantastic game, if it keeps this up till the very end it'll be the best PS3 game so far for me.

Unfortunatly I wasn't able to buy this game as my TV is now broke! :(

And being a poor student it'll be a while before I have the money again to buy another TV. I can't even play my PS3 now!

I can't wait for the Anime series adaption of this game which will be out in Japan sometime later this year. Hopefully they will probably keep the original voice actors since many of them are famous seiyus themselves.
