lo guys,

My mates looking for a "Value gaming pc". He wants to spend about £350 and he will need a new everything besides Mouse / KB / Monitor.

Any input welcomed :)

Cheers guys

came up with the following, can be reduced closer to the £350 by changing the 3850 to the 256mb version, but if he can afford it i'd go for the 512 one.

Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail £45.99 (£54.04)

Antec NSK 4480B Mini Tower Case (Black) - 380W Earth Watts PSU £45.99
(£54.04)

PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 3850 Pro Extreme 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail £99.99 (£117.49)

OcUK Value IP35-S Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £46.99 (£55.21)

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK) £22.99 (£27.01)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (ST380815AS) £25.99 (£30.54)

Samsung SH-S203D 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99 (£17.61)

Sub Total : £302.93
Shipping : £10.95
VAT : £54.93
Total : £368.81

easy :) my buddy runs an e2160, hd3870xt and 4 hdds on a 400watt psu with ease.

The new ATI cards are super power efficient.

Oh and to add both his CPU and GFX are overclocked.

mp260767's spec looks good, however if you friend can go over a little bit more,i suggest getting a 160GB hdd as its only a tiny bit more

The only thing that worries me about this setup is the PSU. I think it'll be fine but a call to OcUK to check out the 12V rail would be a good idea. The GPU will require at least 8 A and the rest of the system might double that. Look for at least 20 A on the 12 V rail.

It has a faster processor and graphics card than mp260767's rig and should be a nice performer. Don't even think about overclocking though. :p

I built a pc for a friend using an asus barebone system based around an am2 mb, it used a 300watt psu also, spec on the sticker said it was rated for 18amps on the 12v rail, fairly impressive for its size but will struggle with a dual core and 8800gt, I wouldn’t risk it.

Also the dated 945GC chipset cannot be compared to the new P35, in every aspect the new Intel chipsets are superior.

those barbones are really only aimed at surfing, word docs and the odd media. definitely not up to hardcore gaming.

Oh and yeah definitely go for a 160gb hdd! games are getting so big these days!!!
