Valve is being sued in the UK for $843 million for 'overcharging 14 million PC gamers”

Yeah, not really. Who actually buys any games through Epic games other than Fortnite players? None. There are MILLIONS of users who sign up, claim the free games and that's it.
I thought I was the only one who did that lol.

I recently got a laptop and the free game, alan wake 2, was to be redeemed on epic games. They must have some kind of deal.

What ever happened to the Steam Sales? When I was a massive PC gamer the chatter was deafening when the sales were on, we used to look forward to it. Not heard anything about for a few years now, but I'm mainly a console peasant now. Is it still a thing?

Their sales prices have been a bit crap for a good few years now - I don't think I've actually bought anything in the summer sales for at least 4 years. Even Humble Bundle and the like tend to be a bit meh...

If you can get pass the ridiculous stigma of playing stuff on another launcher then Epic sales (summer, autmum, winter etc) are miles better than Steams.

If the complaint is accurate then Epic can only beat Steam on pricing if it's something that isn't on Steam in the first place.

Nah, I've bought plenty of games on Epic (non-exclusives) since they were cheaper in their respestive sales - I only care about it being cheaper, and the fact the devs get a better cut is a bonus too.

This was going to happen eventually. All the newer big tech companies use the same growth model where they offer a compelling service at a low price point which allows them to dominate the market and once there market position is entrenched they can start to change their pricing model (think companies like Netflix and Uber).

I'm not sure how I feel about this personally.

Normally I am all for going after large greedy companies, but when it comes to Valve....

I appreciate they are expensive for games but you do have alternatives, they do allow you to register keys purchased from third parties for a start, so they are not really manopolising in that respect.

I really like the Steam platform, it was works and is a great place to have all your games, I have an Epic account and actually a launcher that one isnt too bad, I will outright refuse to used Ubisofts launcher based on previous experience. I got into Minecraft and teh Microsoft equivalent is horrendous, literally awful.

I think you do have to spend a minimum via steam, I think its like £10, but basically after that you can effectively use the platform for free if you purchase all of your games via a third party.

I think the games industry isnt in a great palce as it is, I cannot see how this will help things overall, the only poeple that will gain are the lawyers.

Except it hasn’t worked for Uber, they’re still losing billions and local and national governments are pushing back across the world.
