Close Steam, restart it, and try again. If you get the same problem, close steam, go to your \Steam\ folder and delete the file clientregistry.blob. Open Steam up, log on again, and that may help.

They do use lots of servers for content, or at least the used to.
 
Yeah, it's just the login/verification database/server that's stored in one place I'd guess, which, from a security standpoint, does make sense, since more servers means more chance of being hacked, and the risk of placing customers' details with a third party. There are tons of content servers though, as can be seen by the "Content Server #x" bit that appears when you connect to a server, and of course, game servers themselves exist all over the world.

Oh, no, sorry, I forgot. STEAM SUX LOL :rolleyes: . Silly me.
