Great, no, will I buy, no. But in the current climate, it doesn't seem way out there.

Of course consoles are cheaper, but even without ram nonsense, consoles were always going to be better value, as Sony can make it up by bending you over for online play and bending you over with £150 controllers where the fix for drift is "buy more sticks from us at £20 a pop", Sony also get their piece from any game sold, anywhere. Valve can't do that, open platform and they don't even get anything from Steam keys sold elsewhere.

So not buying it, but it doesn't seem outrageous in the current memory climate.

Valve is clearly getting milked by its suppliers or buying parts off ebay. You are far too optimistic.

Sure but how little will they put on sale to generate FOMO? 1000 on sale - sells out. All the sites will be reporting that it sold out...

Exactly, they are at the detriment of the A.I companies placing 10 of billions USD in orders for components. Steam is very much at the back of the queue with no preferential pricing.

Yes, it's expensive..... FOR YOU but not for many others.

We have been shown time and time again such as the release of RTX 5090 back then and recent Steam Controller.

"Oohh... Nah... It's too expensive!"
"It's DOA!!"
"Expensive for what is it!"

What happened?!?!? Zero problems with them selling out and months waiting for stock.

People have a short memory.

Honestly just go bazzite or CachyOS so you get kernels, mesa and KDE updates faster

We all know every hardware company is suffering a shortage due to AI.

So it be dumb to pull a stunt like that in these times to generate FOMO.

Yeah I hear you - I’m in two minds honestly… I think I might install SteamOS first just to have a tinker, but I feel like I will end up moving over to Bazzite eventually. Will have to see…
 
Better off buying a PS5 Pro and getting 60fps minimum at 4K output.

And GTA6 in the process in Nov.

GGs Valve, this one is gonna be a ,miss.

If it wants to compete with the console space it simply has to do better and be a viable alternative. They'd have been better off giving it a miss entirely and going again when everything settles down.
