Valve

I think they'll **** up with their quality control as in I don't think they actually test/check any 3rd party games they release on Steam. Prime example being this WarZ title that's just come out. Watched a video on it and it looks embarrassing, also the devs are meant to be *********.

Any common components from these builds? RAM? Hard Drive? Installation media? Optical drive? Power supply? SATA cables?

To quote myself again, Omeaka, because you haven't answered the question above.

Have you used any common components between any of your machines that you've had issues with?

How about this... have you, perchance, used the same SteamInstaller.exe file each time?

How about the same mains power cable? The same mains extension cable? The same mains socket?

I've only had one machine which I showed the spec above, except it had an FX4100 and an AM3+, now i has a 3570k and a Z77.

Each time I've got a new one from steampowered, no reason to back up a 1mb .exe which downloads so easily.

Steam has always randomly stopped responding for small amounts of time for me, that's on 4 completely different PCs (in different locations, with different internet connections and ways of connecting to the router) and my laptop as well. It only does it for 10 secs or so, and 99% of the time it's just when it's open in the background and I see the blue aero outline appear around Steam behind the browser.

The only time it's locked up for a few minutes on sign in is when I used my phone's data connection (most of the time it works on the data connection fine, it's only a couple of times on one day that it happened when I was trying to download the THQ Humble Bundle).

Recently there hasn't been much of note and Dota 2 just looks like another run of the mill clicky-clicky-stabby-stabby-spells game.

Wow, have you even opened this game up once? Watched one video on it? Has a screenshot ever had the chance to even withstand a second or more on your retinas?

FLY YOU FOOLS.

I've fallen out with both Valve and EA at the moment, I bought Bad Company 2 on Steam and the CDkey says it's already in use.

EA support said to contact Steam Support.

Guess what Steam support said.

Neither want to admit responsibility and I'm 30 quid short.
I've actually emailed Gabe Newell directly about it but I'm not expecting much of it. EA won't even give me their crappy low-level supervisor emails. **** them.

At the end of the day they are both opportunistic companies trying to maximise and efficiently empty your wallets while giving you as little as possible in return.
Any company loyalty is misguided and retarded. They just don't care about you.

was that a phone call or EA's retarded real time chat support.
i had problems logging into RedAlert 3 game ...i wont bore with all that happened but when i phoned they just gave me another key to make a new account.
About a year later i forgot my details so phoned them up again and they just gave me another key to make a new account.

Personally I think it's probable that the issue you're having with steam is more likely due to hardware failure than any rare hardware incompatibilities (especially, as it has already been pointed out, you have a pretty common hardware combination).

In the past when I've had components fail the problems can manifest themselves in odd ways. When I had a HDD fail a few years back everything was working fine, except issues with one or two programs refusing to uninstall and behaving oddly (crashing etc.). Eventually a month or two later the drive finally died and I only released afterwards what had been causing me so many issues with software.

I've also had similar issues with ram, however generally the time between the first symptoms of failure and my PC being rendered unusable was always much shorter (generally 1-2 weeks).

Essentially in my experience, strange software problems that there seems to be no fix for are more often caused by hardware failures than some hardware compatibility issues (more so in this cause with very popular software/hardware).

Dunno mate, don't think the fact Steam's slow and unresponsive means my HDD or RAM are about to croak, they aint even 6 months old yet and were built by OcUK, and this happened from the day it was built, plenty of people have Steam running slowly and crankily for them. Of the 3 big DRM programs (Org, Upl, and of course Steam), Steam is the least responsive/most bloated by miles. You have about 5GB for every 20 games you own of bloated Dx installers and CCC+ installers inside the Steam folder, tons of cache's for stupid things and tons of game content you don't even know you have from the f2p titles, any program will bloat and struggle to line up file and data reads with all that stuff clonked in there.

Did you buy the game from steam, or did you buy it from a key-selling site? If the latter, then it's the key seller's fault and you shoulod chase it up with them. If you bought direct from steam, they should sort it.

When did you spend £30 to get Bad Company 2?

This really isn't the case with Valve. The amount they build into their products, that they don't need to (lots of free updates, community features, game moddability, etc.) is exactly what separates them from other publishers, and most other non-indie devs.
