Van drivers, generally a little bit stupid

A client of mine reported an accident to me this morning.

Van driver bumped his van.

I asked about the speed he was travelling at and the client said the driver was going maybe 90mph. Not exactly crime of the century but here's the best bit.

When asked why he was driving so quickly, he said he was running low on fuel so sped up to get to the petrol station quicker.

Ummm, so apparently this van's fuel gauge is an egg timer right? Oh no, only 3 minutes of fuel left - I better boot it before it runs out.

Classic :D

No being funny and I'm sure there are some clever/nice guy van drivers out there (probably in here), but on the whole they do seem to be a bit thick! That is quality though!
Having said that if they were clever I doubt they would be van drivers!

what you trying to say  ;)

Heheheh, I remember getting real low on fuel a few times and creeping down to 50-odd mph to reduce drag and conserve fuel :D

New that would happen. I'm making a sweeping generalisation and allowing for the obvious exceptions to the rule. Here I'll make annother one - Women drivers are pap. :D

Sabine might have a few words to say about that mind.... especially when I race her round the ring on my R6, her in a tractor and she still wins! :D

hiding behind the lorries at 56mph normally does the trick, my mate once got 78mpg in a diesel clio he bourght for £40 :D

You will find that that is a common reason given to the police for speeding.

As for van drivers "generally" being a bit stupid, hmmmmm.

I've seen members posting exactly the same thing in here when discussing fuel economy.
you use less fuel because you get there quicker.

and these are people that can vote!

I'd correct that to most van drivers are untrained, poor road users that try to drive their 3.5 tonne van as if it were a car.
some are good drivers however it's my experience that the majority are not.

I wouldn't trust 95% of van drivers to organise my sock drawer.

before i was allowed out in the van i had to have an assessment by the same people who run the advanced driver courses (IAM etc) and they also train the police drivers. So i most be one of the good ones :D

just witnessed a large transit van driver literally "rip" open a vw with the metal lower bumper at the back. The road was simply too narrow, but he thought he could pass through. He had to step on the pedal quite a few times, as his van got stuck (between parked car and kerb on other side), but eventually got through and drove off, leaving the parked vw in a near-to-death state.

Too bad I saw him do it and filled in a witness statement against him.

Maybe he should have used green soap? ;-)

there are a lot of good van drivers but I do feel that they are the minority wheb compared to all van drivers.
most van drivers have had zero training in as much as they're in the driving seat because they're allowed to be there on an ordinary car license.

white van man needs compulsory training IMHO.
