Van drivers, generally a little bit stupid

I’d like to know where this “If you job entails driving a van you are thick” way of thinking comes from.

I know someone who thinks like this and I can’t get my head round it. He must be starving his brain of oxygen when he puts his tie on in the morning:D.

As of next week I'll be driving a van yet wearing a shirt and tie so that arguement's gone to pot :p

there are a lot of good van drivers but I do feel that they are the minority wheb compared to all van drivers.
most van drivers have had zero training in as much as they're in the driving seat because they're allowed to be there on an ordinary car license.

white van man needs compulsory training IMHO.

Isn't really hard to drive a van tbh - I learnt to drive (outside of lessons) in a long wheelbase VW Transporter, at 17. I've also driven it with a trailer, again no problems. IMO it isn't the lack of training that's the problem, but just the attitude that many have (often in old vans with rust everywhere, neglected), in that they don't care about anything else, which is reflected in their driving style.

the problem is that most car drivers are different degrees of rubbish.
as you only need a car license to drive a van this is reflected in the typical standard of van driver.

When asked why he was driving so quickly, he said he was running low on fuel so sped up to get to the petrol station quicker.

An old sales manager in my fathers business got carpeted for advising his Ford Cortina equipped sales reps to do just that! :D

Priceless!

I love things like that. I was on the back of a jet ski over the summer, and my mate was driving, we were low on fuel when he came out with the statement:

"Ill bomb it around this bay so we can get back to the port before we run out of petrol, if I go slow we might run out before we get there"

If the thing wasnt so damn noisey I could have argued otherwise, but no.
