Van speed limits, how are they not wider knowledge

I assumed vans were limited to 110 except when they're towing compressors and cement mixers when they usually slow down to about 90. Unless the old bill are around in which case they drive at 38 like everyone else...

Would it surprise you then to know artics have to do 40 on single Carriageways?

It amazing how many bits of the highway code you seen being broken every day (and yes i do realise not all of the HWC is actually law)

I was behind a unmarked TC who was behind an artic doing 60mph on the way home, I got a hell of a glare when I took a pic of him at the lights, probably thought he was going to be on YouTube :p

Most people (myself included) get annoyed when someone's not doing at least 60 in an NSL area, regardless of vehicles.
Asda and Morrisons lorries are the worst. I'm sure they have to do 40 on the A19 between Thirsk and York... and they do. So that's ok, but what isn't is the plebs who insist on driving almost inside the trailer and then in a big train o' 20 cars all with the front wheels resting on the car in front's bumper so there's absolutely NO way to get past :\

Not just artics mate.

HGV's are indeed restricted to 40 MPH on NSL roads, 50 on Dual Carriageways & 60 MPH on Motorways. :)

The Asda & Morrisons truckers you refer to as worse are actually more like the best - in other words they are amongst the few truckers who stick to the legal limit in such vehicles, be thankful - a speeding artic is not something you want to be involved in an RTA with. ;)

my 7.5 tonner is limited to 56, & it only does that downhill with a tailwind, its a gutless piece of junk

It must be gutless - my artic (similarly limited) will happily run way over 70MPH on a hill if I was daft enough to let it!

Oh don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you - as annoying as it is being stuck doing 40 - once you get behind these drivers you know they're not going to speed up as soon as they get to a straight bit. It's the people BEHIND the lorries that annoy me :)

Worst lorries to be behind are ones with a .... something trailer that you load from the top - dunno what they're called... Don't know if they have a tipper mechanism either, but they do everywhere at 50+ and speed up to whatever they like as soon as they've stopped wobbling round corners :)

(They're full, most of the time too)

Surely the different spped limits on a Van and the MPV version, is down to that fact that you could be carrying a load? which brings in many more variables in terms of handling compared to some thing with seats, the load is fixed in a MPV.

I know someone who discovered this after getting a ticket for doing 61mph in a 60 zone. When he queried it with a solicitor (the guy already has 9 points) he was told about this.

If I'm not mistaken, all brand new vans now have speed limiters fitted set at 70mph.

half right half wrong

its not all new vans

but its becomming quite common for Large Purchasers to fit their entire fleet with limiters when ordering a bulk of new vans.

The seats in the MPV may be fixed but the load could still vary. (ie peoples weight what seat they sit in)

I dont think thats right mate, we have 2 renault master vans at work which I drive, one on a 53 plate, the other on 57. Neither have a limit and I didnt know about the regulations, ive been on the motorway doing 70/80 and a merc sprtinters often fly by! What is it with sprinter drivers that makes them hoon it down a motorway!!!
