Van speed limits

White van drivers, tossers. Possibly the worst drivers on the road. And I thought taxi/buses were bad :O.

Hmm, How long have you been driving, how many points do you have/have ever had, How many accidents have you had, and how many miles do you do a year?

Because if any of your answers are worse than mine, then you are even worse than the worst drivers on the road.

better than being limited to 70! (not that mine is you just see a lot that are)

Try being limited to 57, an extra 3mph would be nice to bring it upto a round 60. So difficult to overtake slower things.

You must be one of the idiots that ignore the fact im sitting in the middle of the road with my hazard lights on trying to do a manouver. Or are you one of those that sits so close to the rear of me I cant actually see you in my mirrors? Maybe your one of the many people that wont let me pull into the outside lane when approaching a slip road so other cars can join a DC without me ploughing into them? Who knows eh, im just one of those "tossers." I will admit there are some terrible van drivers out there, but the whole white van man = ass makes my job so difficult at times because people are not willing to let me get on with it.

Have you ever driven a white van as part of your job?

I'm not excusing their behaviour, but it's a lot more understandable if you do it yourself at least once. Particularly if you're fully laden and some ***** pulls into your stopping distance, you really don't want to be slowing down as it'll take forever to get back up to speed again. The temptation to tailgate and hope that the person goes away before you lose speed is great indeed.

Or the old, ill just pull out on you and not accelerate, then when you have slowed right down and lost all your momentum, ill plant it in second, throw out a huge diesel cloud and be at the speed limit.

Meanwhile you in your white van are busy chugging away with all that weight behind you know that 45 seconds later you will have managed to accelerate back up to the speed limit.

I'm going to get battered for this but its a pet hate of mine.

1: Unless your slowing down quickly on the motorway
2: unless your broken down
3: unless your a bus picking up children

You shouldnt be using your hazard lights at all. I believe its actually an offence to use them on a moving vehicle apart from number 1

The fact that your in the middle of the road SHOULD indicate your doing a manouver(I know how many idiots would still try and get round you).

I had an accident with a street cleaner a few years ago who was driving down the road( 1-2 mph) with his hazard lights on. I pulled in to park and he hit me.
He said I cut him up I said as he had his hazard lights on he must have been stationary. And therefore He hit me.

Why did he need to have his hazard lights AND his yellow beacon flashing I have no idea.

Not having a go but you need to be carefull of using your hazard lights.

Some people could presume as your in the middle of the road with your hazard lights on youve broken down.

I'm now going to hide behind my couch

Driving year and a half. zero points, no accidents, well in my current car i've done 30,000 and my car I had at first around 8,000 or so. So call it 40,000 miles.

Given ther number of times my trailer (45ft) sets off a gatso even though I'm not speeding, they can't tell much at all! :D

Correct. All they have is radar, so it's a bit of a fudge really to guess what sort of vehicle it is, and therefore whether it should bother to flash or not. 7.5 tonne lorries cause confusion because these are subject to the 70/60/50 limit same as vans but are often detected as larger HGVs (60/50/40 limit) and then the ticket office get to figure out whether it's a 7.5 tonner or not and thus whether to prosecute.

Just because you're going to be driving a Berlingo, I'd be careful around those gatsos if you plan to do 70 on a DC or 60 on an SC they may just get it right and take a picture.

Nah you and you colony of toss pot white van drivers, all the same. Im driving along you come up behind and tailgate, swerve out undertake, drive like a total and utter pollock and still think your always in the right even though you can't drive for $hit. Sure i've only been driving a year and a half but I've covered say 40,000 miles. And i've had no problems? Im willing to let you get on with it, but driving like a 17 year old boy racer in a suped up saxo grants absolutely fk all respect from me.

All BMW drivers, drive like door handles.

Rovers are driven only by old people on Sunday.

And all truck drivers are fat yorkie eating prostitute killers.

Want to get any more generalisations into that post of yours, been driving a whole year eh?! ;)

Whats your point theres nothing claiming my experience or anything about me at all :S?

Im talking about the white van driver, im not talking about myself or tryna say im an amazing driver or what not.

And I agree about the truck drivers :pR420LA how many prostitutes you killed :@!

Im saying that your generalising badly.

Ok so maybe a few drivers have peeved you and because of this you have noticed them, it just happens that they were driving a van. There are quite a few vans on the road at any one time you know ;)

Would you be having the same reaction if it was someone in a car?

OMFG SOMEONE IN A CAR JUST TAILGATED ME WTF THEY SHOULD DIE!!!!111oneone

Must have me confused with somone from DHL or a ***** who couldnt care less because the police wont touch them. You can generalise all you like, Ive already conceeded that there are van drivers who are total idiots. I would have thought a whole year and abits driving would have been enough for you to realise that we aint all prats. I could be but I cant afford to be, everything I do is monitored. I cant even break heavily more than 3 times in a day without getting talked too the day after.
As for the whole hazards thing, I know its not somthing that should be done but the ineptitude of some people that use the road is staggering. Its not like my van is small or hard to see.

I thought hazards were for stopping on double yellows, in bus stops and outside schools

At one point I owned a modified saxo, a black bmw and drove a white van all day. Oh and I have 2xCU30 on my licence. ****** of all tossers perhaps? Oh well... 60k miles p/a and never had so much as a bump yet

We put a 2.1 Pinto with a twin choke Weber in our works van to give it some much needed oomph. Solved the problem of people pulling out in front of you :D

Do you work for tesco as we have a similar thing on our vans

I do believe there is another chap on here who also drives for Tesco. Paragon to me is a completely backwards system and has been chosen for its ability to jam as many deliveries in as possible. Doesnt seem to take into account trivial things such as traffic lights, other cars and roads that you cant physically fit a van down.
