Vanguard Revisited

No thanks, but the point remains that if SoE hadn't taken on VG you wouldn't even have a game to play, thus SoE did not fail VG.

As for the laying off of devs, if the game wasn't profitable enough to keep them then it's simple economincs.

SWG changes were forced upon SoE by Lucasarts so they again did not fail there.

You can keep harping on about how bad SoE all you like but the truth of the matter is that SoE have saved several failing MMO's from the zapper and while you may not like the direction the games have gone in since SoE took over you do still have the game to play if you so choose.

^ At least some one has a clue ^ :D

and uhmm AOC is instanced? so like GW then? ie meeting areas are public but quests are instanced (so you dont meet other players not in your group out there?)

No, it's not instanced like that. More like EQ2.

When a zone reaches a certain population limit a new instance is created.

thanks Wyrdo :) do you know the pop cap?

and is it like say theres 300 on one server?? and i join the server and goto same area X but game sticks me in a new instance of area X because pop cap has been reached? So means i couldnt join the rest of the adventure group who might already be there? (e.g. say i lagged out)

Everyones really on the same server and you can swap instances easily, all the chats area specific and includes all instances.

I am clueless? Will you Sony fanboys please do some research.

I take it you were all not aware when sony took over they sacked nearly ALL the devs for Vanguard and did not replace them!
!

As everyone else has already stated; SOE pretty much saved Vanguard from extinction. Tis Sigil you want to blame for the disaster that was Vanguard, not SOE.

I loved the structure of Vanguard, but the thing that killed it for me was the abismal engine it ran on! If i wanted to play a game on mid settings with 15-20 fps... i would be retarded!

Yep, it actually runs pretty well now. It always looked gorgeous, but now it doesn't have a fit every five feet. Here, have a screenshot. Have two :D

MMO's rarely, if ever, recover from a bad launch.

Vanguard will never have more than 20,000 subscribers. Ever. It's time has passed, it had it's shot and it failed massively. SoE ought to shoot it like the lame dog it is and put it out of it's misery.

Sorry if that comes across as mean, but it's true. The game should have been canned in 2007. It will never amount to anything because SoE has it on a shoestring budget. No commitment to developing the game means no new subscribers will be attracted. It's on life support, eeking out a tiny profit, and SoE have no intentions of changing that fact. It's there to pad out their All Access pass, and nothing more.

Same here couldn't play it half the time with my 8800gts320 it reminded me of eq1 but that not surprising.

Harsh but true. I will still continue to play as long as I am having fun. I am not one of those that suffer for my MMO, when the going gets rough, I get going. The depressing thing is that this is the only MMORPG of this type out there and there is nothing else in development.

I've got a SOE Station access sub, so decided to try this again, I patched to the latest version and it had me process some shaders or something for a while before I could get in, reading the patch notes it says that this was to improve 'hitching'. Well either it's my system or it just doesn't work, I logged on as a low level character who I'd managed to get to Khal (I think), it's like a desert city, anyway the performance way terrible, it was stuttering just as bad as it did the last time I tried to play and gave up on the game.

It got so bad that I just logged of after half an hour, it was basically unplayable for me. I think this is the problem with Vanguard, it was built on such a bad engine and I'm not sure they can ever fix it. It's a shame because I love the idea of a hardcore game like this, but vanguard just isn't the one for me I think. I really wanted Vanguard to work and remember being there for the launch, and even kept playing for a while convinced they would sort it out. I'm sure they have made some improvements, but it just puts me off instantly when I log into the game and it is a slideshow :(

Just got myself a copy of this and am updating atm (won't be able to play til tomorrow though now! :( )

Anyways, what server is best for UK/GMT Players?

They should have done the same to SWG after the CURB.
Get rid and start a fresh or bring back Pre-CU.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems. The only thing I can think of is use the video driver reset feature in RivaTuner as this sorted out an unplayable AoC.

It is interesting to see that a whole bunch of ex AoC people asking for buddy keys on VG forums.
