variation in core temps

my i5 750s idle temps (approx) are showing as this: core #0 31: core#1: 26 core#2 31: and core#3 25. just wondering if the 5/6 degree variation between cores 0&2 and 1&3 is normal? i'm using the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus

Yep, entirely normal, only ever seen one screenshot of an intel quad with perfectly even temps. Im on my third and theyve all had variations, even my q6600 after lapping it.

They're basically the same as mine. Mine are 30/28/28/25. Although mine's at stock at the moment. Can I ask what cooler you are using?

Also can mean the Heat spreader on the cpu is not completely flat or even the base of the heatsink -
or Calibration of the sensors within the cpu.

lol I'm the same got my temps down to 27/26/26/22 by opening my window.... why didn't I think of that before...

that was the first piece of after market cooling i used!!

ok got the temps down to 25/23/24/19. I'm impressed... mind you me personally am bloody freezing!!!

I wish it was, used 2 different coolers and mounted 4 times total, same results. Oh well, not too fussed, just a little annoying, if only all cores were as good as the coolest!

dont think i'll bother re-applying thermal paste. 1) the temp variation aint that bad 2) the highest temp aint that high 3) currently can't be a***d

Think I'm inclined to believe that one, considering even when people are extremely careful with the thermal paste & making sure the heatsink is on perfectly there seems to be a suspiciously high variation sometimes.

The temps are only accurate at the throttle point, the colder the cpu the less accurate (and the greater the variation) between cores. While the sensor is a thermal probe, its only calibrated for high "overheat" temperatures to perform safe throttling and shutdown of the cpu.
