I'm looking to make a lady friend of mine a cake tonight as a birthday gift.

My Google skills are high enough to get the general recipe but I'm after some recommended variations.

I was thinking some kind of chocolate cake but any ideas welcome.

So come on OcUK, do what you do best and 'Spec me a' Cake recipe :)

A layered chocolate cake with chocolate chips in there, with fudge between the cake layers, covered in chocolate frosting and white chocolate flakes.

EDIT: Use Hersheys chocolate chips for best results.

6 oz caster sugar
6 oz margerine (room temp)
5 oz self raising flour
3 oz drinking choc
3 eggs
3 tablespoons hot water

Triple sift the drinking chocolate and flour (use McDougals). Then add sugar, eggs and marg. Mix all together. Then add the water. Mix until it's a smooth paste.

Split between 2 cake tins and put in at 180C for about 20 mins or until the top is not soggy and a skewer comes out clean. Don't open the oven before you think it's done as it might fall.

For the icing:

2:1 ratio of icing sugar and room temperature jersey butter. Add Green n Blacks coco powder to make it chocolatey. You might need a drop of milk if it doesn't soften up but it does take a while so be patient. Apply to the cake when almost cool.

That's my favourite recipe, lovely :D

Hash Cakes for the win.

She'll get off her trolley and then you can amuse yourself by putting giant smartie tubes over her knee and elbow joints.
