Hiya,

I have acomputer which has a fresh Windows XP Pro install on. I have successfully installed AOL (Not my choice :P ) and a few other applications. yet whenever I try to install my HP 2410 Photo Printer and Copier I get an error about the print Spooler service not being started. If I start it manually in Services the installation goes one step further and then complains about the Windows Installer Service not being accessible. So I enabled the Windows Installer Service and the installation goes along a bit further. However the Installation service seems to turn itself off again half way through the install resulting in the installation aborting.

I have tried to unreg the msexec file as described on MS knowledge base and I've also downloaded and installed the latest Windows Installer redistribution but to no success.

Any ideas?

Would it be suggested to re-install Windows again?

Thanks in advance.

Have you ever used a Lexmark printer on your PC? I had that problem yesterday, turns out Lexmark fiddled around with my print spooler within the registry settings. Had to fiddle around with it. Got it fixed in the end.

Thanks for the reply, as far as I know there hasnt been any other printers installed. I'll give the owners a ring and see if they know anything. I am still thinking fresh install can't hurt, *** do you think?

In that case, perhaps a fresh install would be a good idea. Btw did you try steps 15-17? I did that and I was able to install my printer. It mightn't be the problem but do that and you can be sure that a fresh install is the way to go.
