Ok, a long story short:

I buy Astra > I change head Unit to a Custom one.

My brother buys an Astra > He doesn't know code for his HU > He has mine, I have his in return, and with a promise of code if I need the HU in the future.

My brother crashes his car () > Forgets my HU is in the car > Insurance company take all ownership of care, therefore he sends all paperwork to do with car to insureres. = Me without my stereo code.

Any ideas how I can get the code for the HU?

Im looking to sell it on eBay, so the code is kinda important.

Thanks

Greg

This is what I thought, but seen as Vauxhall will probably want to see proof that I own the vehicle and my brother sent everything off to the insurers, I see that looking very unlikely :(

Is the radio a Philips or a Grundig (something like a CAR400?) I presume it's one of the fitted ones with a separate display?
You could try one of the radio code decoders you can get although they don't always work (there isn't one for Philips anyway) or there is a place online I know of that'll get your code for a good price if you put in the serial no. on the side of the radio.

if you tell me the head unit make and model, i mite be able to decode it for you..
ive got a few decoders... mainly for ford but i got the odd one for some vauxhall head units... it mite work...

edit: if not, try the 'bay... decoder for every type of radio out there!!! i offer decoding for fords for a quid when ford charge something stupid like 20-25!! so defo check the 'bay out...

If you do manage to get hold of the code, you should be able to turn it off, so when the battery is disconnected it'll never ask for a code again, i did this on my ex astra:(

Blew it's turbo @138k and the lease is up..

The Head Unit is a Delco CDR500(D) (Delco Electronics)

GM DELCO
NO: 90 566 821
Type: CDR500(D)

That any use?!

Thanks

Greg

no generator for delco. take it to your local stereo decoder (look in the back of the auto trader) or vauxhall. the code is in the micro, below the cd drive.

we used to charge about £20 for them

Well, apparently the code takes up to 24 hours to get and cost's £16.99 from here , so you may be as well to go with Vauxhall. :)

the problem isthe code may not work or may have been changed. better to have it decoded properly, and know it works.

That at least is true, but I've had 2 out of 3 work from there. The one for a Renault radio didn't work, but then quite a few Renault radio's that i've come across have been recoded. :p It didn't work, I explained to the bloke via e-mail and he refunded me! It's most unlikely that a newish radio like a Delco CAR500 has been recoded anyway.

Just take it to Pinnacle (i think) Greg.

The bloke in there charged me £8 for it. Still have the invoice around here somewhere too.I had to have the car registration form though.
