now don't scoff just because it's a Vauxhall - the new sports tourer looks really lovely. I've read up on it a lot and reviewers think it's great too. Big, well equipped and with a better cabin than the equivalent VW apparently.

Has anyone test driven one or know much about them/have experience of one?

I use an Insignia Sports Tourer Elite as a daily workhorse, although its a great car the build quality and general overall driving experience isn't comparable to VW, Audi, BMW (insert other Germany brands here).

They do say you get what you pay for and there is a reason Vauxhall's are slightly cheaper etc.

A word of warning, if you are expecting to lug large items around in the cabin the boot slopes down slightly.

Ah I think you are referring to the old model - the new model is much better apparently - forgive me if I'm wrong but the new models are coming to uk shores this month i believe

Right here we go:

The new car is different car from the old one. It is longer, wider but crucially, lighter. The driving position is completely different: you sit 'in' this one, whereas in the old one you felt you were sitting 'on' rather than 'in' the seats.

A few people have remarked that it feel likes driving a large American car, but not in a bad way. I think an auto will suit the car really well.

The long wheelbase and wide track mean it feels fantastic on the motorway and really eats up the miles. The seats (I have the sports leather) are excellent too, and an improvement over the old ones.

The standard technology is excellent - all the usual stuff, but you also get lane assist, front camera system (traffic sign recognition, emergency braking) as standard.

The dash and interior are fully up-to-date and look and feel pretty good. The touchscreen works well. In fact, most of the technology simply works. Many other systems have issues or 'quirks' that can be annoying; I've not noted anything (other than that they've put more controls on the screen than physical buttons - people previously complained there were too many buttons...)

I recommend either leather or at least the winter pack (or both). The heated seats are automatic - i.e. they come up if the car senses it's cold, and then go off again as the car warms up. Winter pack also has heated front screen and heated steering wheel.

I recommend a model with parking sensors (all but the base model I think, but check). i'd also recommend the rear camera.

Engine-wise, if you want a petrol the 1.5T 165 does the job and we've found it quite popular on the work scheme. Both diesels are fine, the 2.0 170 has plenty of urge, but I hear the 1.6 isnt too bad either.

Spec wise I'd suggest going for SRI Nav (or SRI Nav VX-Line if you like) or Elite Nav (leather, Matrix LEDs, 8" instrument display).

I have the Elite Nav with the 2.0 170PS and a manual. It has the 20" wheels which look great, and dont seem to compromise the ride too badly. Mine's missing the winter pack and the rear camera. The next one has both of those, along with an automatic transmission (new 8-speed Aisin box I am looking forward to trying). It also has HUD and FlexRide (adaptive suspension) which are nice-to-haves. It comes in December. :)

Colour is Darkmoon Blue, which is very dark, but it really pops with the sun on it.

My boss has the Tourer in 1.5T 165PS Elite Nav guise and he's very happy with it. I think his only comment is that it does so much for you that you dont feel you're driving the car. Obviously its designed as a comfortable mile-muncher rather than any kind of sports car.

Go to a dealer and check one out. The dealers should have a Grand Sport in stock that you can try, and most should be able to get hold of a Tourer. I checked the reg data and the Insignia is the top seller by far this month at a retail level (Mondeo/Passat have usually ruled here, while the Insignia has ruled the company car market). Are you looking to buy privately, or as a company car?

TL-DR - go try one :)

I quite like the new Insignia Grand Sport, but it's very colour and wheel sensitive. It needs a dark colour and the 20" wheels to look good.

Cars with smaller wheels and in silver look a bit dowdy already.

Good deals available to private buyers on the 1.5T, but the higher spec models get pricey and Insignia depreciation has been fierce in the past.

Ah my bad, should have read the Original post properly. The new model does look nice, reading Joe T post it is fully spec'd hopefully quality has improved.

So I'll be wanting petrol, tourer and at least sri nav but preferably elite vx-line nav with big wheels - it looks genuinely very lovely

Do you lease? If so, how much are you paying and where from?

Has anyone here driven the 2l petrol 4x4 version?

Considering this as the next company car but there's no demonstrator of this engine available locally to me. Tried to get one organised through web-chat, customer service and the business demonstrator programme but no joy.

I'm used to driving both FWD & RWD manuals so it's unfortunately critical I test drive the specific engine with it being an AWD auto.

Also noticed something strange with the configurator for this. You can't seem to have both the premium / massaging seats along with one of the gadget packs (lane departure assist, adaptive cruise control etc from memory). The two don't seem to be related but Vauxhall confirmed it's a legitimate restriction.

Thanks

I have seen one in a car park on Saturday, could not believe it's an Vauxhall.
Very sporty and modern lines. You need large wheels for this car otherwise it's looks silly. The car i say had 17"inch I think and they were to small compared to the rest of the body.

There was one knocking about at work which a few people drove. Anecdotal feedback seemed pretty good. This review may also help.

Just a heads up that i think all Elite models come with Android Auto or Apple Carplay as standard, so you could save a bit of cash and get one without a nav and just use your phone.

Android Auto and Car Play are standard on all versions :). The lower specs (Design, SRi) are available without Satnav if you want to go this route.

So I got around to test driving the AWD Elite Nav last weekend. I liked it, powerful enough, packed full of gadgets, big and roomy, nice looking interior etc.

Definitely interested in getting one of these but have recently found out there is an incoming GSI version which is set to be superior to the current top spec Elite Nav.

Unfortunately there's nothing definitive available on the web, just a "concept" page on the official Vauxhall site along with a few online speculative articles.

Got in touch with Vauxhall online support and they cannot provide any information other than it will hit the showrooms in March, likewise I got no information from the dealer trying to sell me a car. Guess I'll just have to wait.
