Hi

I am thinking of buying the New Astra, Does anyone know what thier Plus Pack includes?

I can't seem to find anything on thier site which is strange...

The new one is unbelievably ugly. Quite literally a blob slightly moulded with lights and windows.

Did a quick Google and for the Vectra and Signum the plus pack contains:

[BA range of new options known as Plus Packs will also be offered. The Life Plus Pack combines 16-inch alloys with a CDC40 DAB digital radio for £695, the Club Plus Pack adds automatic air con and a CDC40 stereo for £595, Design Plus Pack combines 17-inch alloys with a CDC70 stereo and colour monitor for £895, SRi Plus Pack adds 19-inch alloys and a CDC40 stereo for £750 and the Elite Plus Pack adds 19-inch alloys and a sunroof for £750.[/B]

Don't really know if it's relevant to the new Astra though.

Not new new I hope

Yeah it's going to be new new It's going to be my first car ;)

I think the New one is a lot better looking than the old one I hated the Old onw.

I am getting a 5 door the old 5 door was well ugly but the old 3 door is nicer I rekon

Are you a new driver? If so then a brand new car is a bad idea imo, for many reasons (insurance, massive depreciation, chance of damaging it etc..). Plus its an Astra...

Yeah I get you but I have the choice so I figured I might as well,

I may not end up getting an Astra but it will defo be a new car

They've only just been out six months, haven't they? Factor in order times, I doubt there are many used MK6 Astras about.

Too many snobs in this thread that need to pull their heads out of their arse. An Astra is a decent car.

That said, buying a new car for your first car is really silly. Buy a second hand car that'll last you a couple of years until your driving skills and experience have improved, then buy a new car if you want one.

I don't understand why everyone is so dead set against a new driver having a new car? Were you all bad drivers? :D

For the record, when I first started driving, I didn't have any knocks or accidents, bar a non-fault incident that polished out for me (the driver at fault wasn't so lucky). In fact, over 5 years later, I've still not have any scrapes that were my fault, bar a couple of curbed wheels.

I'm sure the OP knows the risks, and would be far more worried about damaging a brand new car - we all know the attachment someone has with their first car, even if its a ****ter - a brand new Astra surely will be his pride and joy.

I honestly get what you guys are saying i really do, but I would get a second hand car first but my family are helpimh out with a new car so why now then?

I know i'm very lucky to have a brand new car for my first car and of course it will be my pride and joy ;)

Doesn't mean you won't make a mistake or be caught off-guard, especially as a new driver. My car is my pride and joy, didn't stop me carelessly reversing into a Volvo a few months after getting it though. Was absolutely gutted, can't imagine how I'd have felt if it had been brand new.

Utterly ridiculous idea. If your family are helping, get them to help with your insurance costs or something instead, and get a better, nicer car in a year's time. An Astra (or Focus, or any equivalent) is not the sort of car to buy new anyway, it's really nothing special. Let someone else take the initial hit in value for it.

Like I said I do get you guys, but I don't get why you are so much against the idea you're making it out to be the wworst thing ever.

Let me tell you one thing if any of you guys had the cance to buy a brand new car i'm sure you would be over the moon

ANYONE, can buy a brand new car! On finance, or not but just not as good as an old car.

Some of us are sensible with money.

Me not included.

How about the fact you'll be bored of it in six months and when you go to sell it, it'll be worth half of what you paid?

And don't say you won't. It's an Astra, not a VX220.

My advice would be to spend a couple of grand on a decent enough car, Focus for example, as your first car. Put away the remaining money you'd otherwise spend on the brand new Astra, and then after a couple of years of owning the Focus and having some experience (and No Claims Bonus!) under your belt, use some of the money you saved to buy something interesting.

Just a thought!

It's not the worst thing ever, depends how you see it. I had a brand new Fiesta as my first car, never crashed it. However I got employee discount on it, so wasnt too bad a deal. In any case, if the future value doesnt bother you then why not?

Im not going to lie, a year in, and I wanted something bigger and faster, but then I would have just traded in. But it got stolen instead
