Vauxhall Plus Pack

*grabs popcorn*

Can I have some of that too?

I'd say the same as everyone else, but from what I can gather, the guy has already made his mind up and there is no changing it, and is either about to drop close to £25k for a decent specced new astra (what I constitute a decent Astra that I've just created on their website), or close to £14k for a povety spec new astra.

I stupidly put my name down for a test drive of the new Astra, Dealers have been calling me twice a week for the past month lol.

If you must get new, At least look else where also? Loads of new cars out there to test drive.

I honestly get what you guys are saying i really do, but I would get a second hand car first but my family are helpimh out with a new car so why now then?

Do you not think its a bit of a shame for your family to help you out to the tune of many thousands and thosuands of pounds to buy an Astra which will be worth about £10k less than you paid for it after 3 years?

Just seems like a waste really. New Astras are for Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Who cares his parents have the money let them spend it. Lets face it this wasn't to find out about the plus pack on the new astra because a 3 second google told me it was 16 inch alloys and fog lights, he just wants to share he's getting a new car.

Well done OP and pass my regards onto your rich parents. Nice enough first car.

Dude if you are going to buy new while you are a new driver take advantage of the vauxhall gap insurance. I have bought two new cars from vauxhall and took this out on both. Basically what it does is this, if you write it off within the first three years you get a full payout on the price you paid for the new car, despite the deprecation that will occur.

As for depretiation, the astra is pretty herendous, how do I know? Well I own one, an 08 Astra Twintop Design which I bought new in March 08. Book price on the car was 21k, I got a decent deal as a family member runs the dealership. There was a depreciation thread here somewhere and in that I worked out that in the 2 years it's lost roughly £11 per day.

I would as others have said start off with something second hand, my first motor was a £200 quid dream machine which was written off because I was a ****.

As for the plus pack, I can't remember what that was on mine so can't really answer that. I am in the vx dealership tomorrow getting a new diff under warranty so will have an ask.

I don't agree with all the comments about getting a banger because you'll probably crash. That probably says more about the people saying it than new drivers. If you're a cocky **** after passing and try and impress your friends driving like a tool and crash - that's not because you're a 'new driver', that's your fault.

My cars a few years old and I've had it for a year and I've fortunately not hit anything or reversed into anything (that just shows you don't know how to use your mirrors). Accidents are exactly that, accidents. If your the type of person who thinks ''oh, i'm only driving a £500 banger I don't give a **** so i'll drive it carelessly'' then quite frankly you shouldn't be on the road, you're irresponsible.

I suspect his family are aware of what it means to spend money and how things lose value.

I doubt it, most people who buy new Vauxhalls are not, they for some reason see it as the 'only option'. It's something I find it hard to understand really, there are occasions when it simply doesn't matter how much it loses, either because you want something particular and there is no other way of obtaining that (But this isnt the case here, he wants a generic hatchback and there are numerous other ways of obtaining this ownership experience even if it isn't this particular model of car) or because money just isn't an issue to the people buying the car, so they are not interested. But that begs the question why, given such wealth, buy a Vauxhall Astra over an Audi A3 or something..

I'm suprised we've not had the thread trashed by the 'get offended on behalf of everyone else' squad yet even though the thread was nothing more than a 'I am getting a brand new car' thread given the Vauxhall website itself explains what the Plus Packs are :p

If you post a thread like this people will post opinions, not all of them being what you wanted to hear or even that useful. Thats life, it happens everywhere, enjoy the new car.

.

Er no, i never had an accident when i started driving. Its been 11 years now and the worst i had was some dumb girl running for a bus literally running into my mirror and ending up breaking her leg under my wheel THIS year, no fault of mine though. Also a pigeon dove into my car windscreen and took it out, but thats of its own accord as well :D

I don't think I could ever buy a brand new run-of-the-mill car and feel like I've done the right thing (considering I could buy a used car that's in excellent condition, and of much better quality, for less money). Even if I was loaded I'd feel like I've made a bad choice. That's just my opinion though... besides, I'm definitely biased towards older cars anyway. Love their simplicity, plus a lot of them are more interesting/appealing to the eye - most modern blobs that get churned out now are instantly forgettable.

Excuse me mate, I'm not a show off for a start and this thread was really for the plus pack as I could not find anything on google.

Maybe you did but I didn't

I have got much better things than to show off.

Guys it's nice to hear you options on what you think you learn slot from hearing other people and hearing from thier experience.

I can't belive he said I'm showing off!

Fine, you're going to get a new car as your first car, that's your choice but a brand new ashtray?

:/

I echo the comments about not wasting your money and that of those helping you.

It's a lot of money to spend tonne something that will depreciate like nothing you have known. Saddling yourself with debt and using others money to finance a heavily depreciating and frankly mundane car is not a good way to start this stage of your life (presuming your late teens age).

Let me tell you one thing if any of you guys had the cance to buy a brand new car i'm sure you would be over the moon

Only if it was a car that was worth owning from new. An Astra isn't, it's going to be nice enough for what it is but it's nothing special and there's no benefit to owning a new one compared to one that's even just a few months old. It's a waste of money, these cars get very cheap very quickly, so why pay more unnecessarily? Doesn't matter what spec you get, it's not going to be unique.

I really do hate it when people say stuff like this.

Not everyone wants a new car. Certainly not when the a new car in question is a Vauxhall Astra...

It really ruffles me when people go on and on about depreciation.

If someone came on here with a spanking new GT2, or an M3 they would get the "nice car" from the majority of people, yet this is probably going to depreciate more in five years than the Astra cost in the first place.

You also have to consider that if no one brought new cars, there wouldn't be any second hand cars for you "wise" lot that would never buy a brand new car.

Sure, if a high mileage, four year old car is your thing, then fair play - but you should be thanking the people who have bought a brand new car because it isn't their thing.

It ruffles me when people go on about high mileage being the end of the world. :p

Given that this place is full of enthusiasts why are you surprised when people are against a new driver buying a brand spanking new Astra?
