I've been with the vBulletin community (the software this forum runs on) for some years now, and in that time I've administered and moderated on multiple forums, so I thought I'd share some good tips on using the software, some of which you might find make foruming a little easier.

1) If you want to see if someone has replied to you in a thread search for your username and "posts only". It picks up your name from the quote box, even though the post was made by someone else.

2) If you've written a long post or you want to see if someone has posted while you've been typing you can always use the preview post button, which updates the thread with any new posts below the post entry box without publishing the post.

3)
firstnew.gif
this button before the thread title takes you to the latest post in a thread. So don't bother clicking on the page number if you've already checked the thread before and trying to find your last place of reference, the forum database stores where you last were in a thread.

4) You can collapse entire forum sections on the home page using the
collapse_tcat.gif
button and the forum will remember this preference. So if you don't like gaming, collapse it!

A lot of you probably already know this, but you'd be surprised how many people don't. Feel free to share anything you think might benefit others.

..I had been using the software for 3 years until I realised about the latest post button ._.

I didn't know number 4 either, never noticed that!

I remember someone saying in photography forum there is a way to see how many people have replied to the thread by clicking on something but I can't find it now or remember how its done - do you know?

click the underscored number in the "replies" column and it gives you a list of who posted.

If you mean who's replied to the thread and how many posts in it each person has, then it's the linked number in the 'replies' column opposite the link to the thread.

Kind of surprised that people didn't know they could shrink forum groups, actually. I haven't had most of them open for years now :p

Nice one - cheers guys :)

Another tip is to turn auto-subscriptions on, and set the Subscriptions page as a bookmark. That way you can see which threads (that you posted in or started) have been updated since your last visit. I do this all the time, and it's really useful :)
