Recently l brought a CPU i74790k, after installing it I tested it with cine bench, l noticed on hwmonitor shows I was getting above 90c. It idles around 30-40c. I've tried resetting the cooler and applied new thermal paste but still the same. I noticed that the vcore is around 1.8v which is high. I've tried to find voltage setting in bios but there are no settings for it and I have updated to the latest bios version. My mother board is h81m p33, note that the bios version are the viglen ones which is a vig 690m. Really need help please

You know i just realised you said it was a viglen build, is it that horrible square cooler with the fan at the side and its screwed down to mount? if so its barely capable of cooling a 2500k properly muchless a 4790k with questionable thermal compound between the die and IHS, Is it the heatpipe or non heatpipe version? What was the original cpu? its likely a lower tdp one and the cooler would be adequate for that.

It's a heat sink, a none heatpipe, the fan when looking down onto the cpu is facing upwards, pins downwards, not sure how else to explain position of fan, tried to upload a pic of it won't let me.

Its likely a cooling issue, even though on paper a 4440 and 4790 have similar TDPs, the real world cooling requirements are different. Also if the 4440 is a 4440S it will have much lower requirement as its a low TDP cpu. The 4790k with its hyperthreading etc.. will run much hotter.
