I am trying to find some hosting for a new project I am planning. The site will be forum based, I don't expect it to be taking up masses of bandwidth (at least not to begin with).

register1.net looks ideal for what I require, decent spec for a reasonable price. However, im not quite sure if it exactly meets my requirements. I would need it to act like a reseller account, so I can assign x amount of space and x amount of bandwidth for different domains. Is this possible?

Register1's product isn't a VDS in the traditional sense as far as I'm aware. Why do you want a VDS and not a reseller account?

I got that impressed after looking at the register1 control panel, there didn't seem to be a way to add extra domains. Well for £50 per year the register1 package seemed pretty good value features wise, the technology behind VPS's seemed to make sense as well. The additon of having reseller functionaility being able to split the package into smaller segments would have been a bonus as well.

So you don't actually need root access? In that case I think you're looking for a reseller account rather than a VDS. A VDS in the traditional sense is a segregated physical hardware node, similar to VMWare, giving you full root/administrator access to the 'server'. If you just want to host multiple domains, each with their own control panel, it will usually be referred to as a 'reseller account' or occasionally 'multidomain' hosting.

HTH :)

Register1 offer unlimited virutal domains on all accounts, this lets you host as many additional domains as you like on the one account.

How does this work? From the control panel demo I could not find an example or way to do what you have described.

They dont claim to offer reseller packages, infact I think they specifically prohibit reselling to stop kids trying to cash in on their reputation and offering a potentially substandard service 'in their name'

but they do obviously let you host as many of you own sites as you wish on your VDS account, its all configurable within your register1.net control panel, buy and and try it out

Unlimited additional domains isn't much of a big thing, most reseller accounts only limit the number of individual accounts, each of which have separate additional domains.

Additional domains belong to one account and have the same control panel login and a few other things whereas proper reseller accounts mean each domain can have its own fully independent account.

Therefore my point was that additional domains is not normally equal to a reseller account. Nowhere near. Hence, since I've never used Register1, I'm asking what they offer since I also couldn't find the bit on the control panel demo, and Adam hadn't updated the thread yet, either :) (and I don't want to bother them since I have zero intention of buying :p)

Also, on the control panel there was a "user limit" of 50 - any idea what that's about?
