Vega 56 Black Screening, fans to 100%, but system still operating

Hi Guys;

I've just purchased a Sapphire Vega 56 Nitro+ LE to replace my 1070 to utilise the freesync on my monitor. Since installing this, anytime i try to use any program (seems to be mostly benchmarks or intensive 3D games like Unigine Valley, Superposition and Crysis 2 (Modded Minecraft seems to be ok)), after a short period, my screen goes black, fans ramp to 100%, but system still functions (game sounds / youtube can still be heard).

There seems to be some correlation between usage and the crashes (not sure if it is a crash, as the computer is still usable, just no screen). When playing modded minecraft, even in full screen at 1080 with VSync off (~120fps), it doesn't crash, but playing Crysis 2 at the same resolution or running a benchmark such as Unigine, causes an almost immediate crash. Using the desktop has not yet resulted in a crash.

My System is as follows:

CPU: Ryzen 1700
MoBo: Asus ROG B350-I
RAM: 16Gb Corsair Dominator 3000MHz
GPU: Vega 56 (Sapphire Nitro+ LE)
PSU: Corsair Hx750i
VBIOS: 113-D0500300-O03
Driver: Adrenalin 19.4.1
Windows: Windows 10(E) 1803 (17134.765)Additional Information

Using Afterburner to monitor the system, temps stay below 60c, fans spin as normal, and both GPU and Mem clocks stay above desktop levels. Following other recommended actions, I have set the minimum RAM MHz to State 1 (700MHz), but despite saving the profile, when returning to Wattman after recovering, the Ram clocks have returned to default.

Also, no crashes have so far happened on the desktop, and I am using three separate 8 pin to 6+2 pin cables to connect to the PSU and they are separated across the PSU.

I've read that rolling back drivers to an earlier version may help, so will be trying that when i get home, but does anyone have any other ideas?

Any help is hugely appreciated.
 
Using older drivers definetly won't solve anything, and nor should it be an acceptable compromise if they did. There's nothing wrong with the latest ones on a card that's functioning properly (I'm using them and Vega right now), and the performance benefits from new drivers are meaningful. I'd try using DDU and completely cleaning out your drivers for both AMD and Nvidia (assuming you're using the same Windows install as with the 1070), then reinstalling the latest AMD drivers fresh. The ones from their site, not whatever Windows Update wants to install. DDU also has a button which will stop Windows from trying to install outdated drivers.

If it's still unstable after all that, you should RMA it. As for WattMan restoring default settings after a driver crash, that's its normal behaviour. You can use the profiles function to save/load settings quickly.

Have you tried a different monitor cable, or is it lose?

Someone posted this exact same probelm a couple of weeks back, if you use the forum search tool you'll probably find it, I think the problem was solved in the end with a complete DDU as he still had nvidia drivers hanging about, but always best to check your PSU is good enough - what have you got?
Are you overclocked and ram overclocked ?
Is the gpu jsut overclocked too far what settings do you use when it does this?
Have you had this happen before, can you try a different PC ?

Aretak - I agree about the driver issue. Someone suggested it in another site, so figured i'd try it to at least see if it was a solution

Illuminist - I tried searching, but didn't find anything, i'll try again. To answer your questions though, i have a Corsair Hx750i paired to a Ryzen 1700 on a Asus B350-I and 16Gb of 3000MHz Corsair Dominator. No other power draws except a single 140mm fan on my cooler and some LEDs on the board. I tried using DDU to get rid of the previous Nvidia drivers, but i'll give that another go when i get home. My 1700 is OC'd to 3.6GHz at 1.2 and my ram is running at DOCP, but no further clocks.

I have not overclocked the GPU, and this did not happen on my 1070, so i can assume its either a power draw issue for the Vega or an issue with the board. Also, i have no other system i can try it in.
 
Try safe mode and select nvidia drivers In DDU, then do safe mode and AMD drivers (twice to be sure, second time select the for a new graphics card option)
The power supply in theory should be just ...just okay if its not old, but you are also using a 3 x 8 pin vega right? ..

I would seriously ask someone you know if you can install it in their system if all my previous suggestions dont change things.
 
I'll try stripping the drivers out again, so if it works.

Yes, it's a three pin card. I have each socket on the card connected to its own 8 Pin on the PSU using a 6+2 cable for each, with no daisy chaining. Sadly, i have no one else with a computer that i'd be able to do this to within less than a 150 mile trip :(
