Morning folks.

Decided in my infinite wisdom to do a full reinstall yesterday.

One large problem- I can't install AMD Adrenalin software. The PC bluescreens as soon as the installer begins updating the driver. Led to three bootloops and start-agains yesterday.

Everything is back at stock in the BIOS, and Windows is as updated as it can be. The card is running (and reporting Vega driver in device manager, managed to use third-party driver update software to get away from Windows default drivers!), and I'm getting good performance from it, but no Wattman or Freesync as I can't install the software package.

It has been working absolutely fine until now. I tried 18.1.11 and a couple of older ones with the same result.

Help!

System in sig, PSU is an XFX XTR 850W

What does that mean?

Driver Booster from iobit. It updated the Windows standard VGA driver to a Vega-specific one. The AMD installer couldn't get that far.

Anyway, all stop, as it's decided to go into a blue-screen bootloop again... It seems I now can't do anything...

I don't know what the issue is, maybe you didn't remove all the old graphics 'stuff' from the previous card.. I can honestly say that I've not had an issue with AMD's drivers in the last 10 years or so.

All I can suggest is that you get the latest edition of Display Driver Uninstaller(DDU), something I would not normally recommend, strip out the drivers and try the installer again.

If you still have an issue then you could report it to AMD, how will they know how to fix it if you don't, and they may be able to recommend a work-around.

Download> latest DDU+AMD Drivers go to Guru3D> https://www.guru3d.com/

Go to run type in> msconfig hit enter, system configuration window will open, click BOOT then in boot options below tick safe boot[safe mode], click apply then ok then a restart window will open> click restart.
It will restart into safe mode, then use DDU when its finished it will reboot into windows.
Use latest AMD Driver> 18.11.1 but run the driver as administrator and see if that sorts out your problem.

Ok, got a result in the end. Seems I needed to wait 4 hours for a particular Windows update to sort its life out first... Also ran everything so slowly it was like a bin lorry reversing up a narrow street. I'm guessing the former made more difference than the latter...

Anyway, I am up and running again. Happy days! :D

Next time you do a clean install, unplug your ethernet cable and install all drivers manually then hook backup to the internet.

I had this problem ages ago, black screen, boot loops etc... it's the dreaded windows drivers.

DDU resolves the issue if you run it once in windows safe mode and make sure this is checked

I'll keep that in mind should I get that issue again. Whenever I do a fresh install I just unplug the ethernet and install all drivers manually, saves the annoyance later!

No need. Similar approach had used on Nvidia also. Nothing to do with AMD only but with windows.

Never had any problems doing a fresh OS install with the internet connected.

I just disconnect any USB devices except keyboard/mouse and only have C: drive connected.

As for drivers l install the GPU one's myself and us drive booster for the rest.
