May I suggest a metal pole rather than plastic... half melted lumps of plastic shrapnel would be quite painful

Might be using gunpowder... so you have mixed some charcoal (2 parts), sulfer(1 part) and pottassium nitrate(7 parts)?

If you are, the saltpeter is way to coarse and is burning slowly. Use fine saltpeter, it will burn faster and give a better bang.

Watch the video slowly, its not burning fast as you get a large amount of smoke coming out before it has fully ignited, either you're powders too coarse, or you're not using enough wadding (could also be slightly damp).

Ive tryed making one of these. Days and Days of trying to get iot to work with alsorts of flamibles. Only managed to get 2 potatoes to shoot

Lighter fluid is good, pour a cap full down it and watch that vegie fly

Potato tbh, nothing else really fits the bill. You'll want it so that the potato forms a seal with the sides of the pipe for best effects.
