. Yes, a lot of the backlash against "Velma" was certainly due to the fact that both Velma and Kaling are Southeast Asian-American, and the showrunner tweaked the classic character for the narrative she wanted to create

Most of the backlash was down to it being a Scooby Doo show, without Scoody Doo in it, or any of the other original characters either, and the fact that it bore no resemblance to the original source material at all, the fact that Mindy Kaling is East Asian is just pure cope. That's not the reason it was a total disaster, it was a total disaster because it was another wokey bait and switch show that no-one asked for, another IP stolen and then cast aside while the activists made something in their own image instead.

No-one cares about wokey activism love, cope all you want, blame who you want, cry as much as you want but that's the truth, but no-one wants to watch that crap.
