have seen the read and write speeds for these drives on their own but have never seen speeds for 2 of them in raid 0.anyone got any figures?also,is there a limit to how many drives you can have in a raid 0 configuration?will adding more drives make the array faster and faster or is there a limit?what the max amount of drives you can raid through the average x58 motherboard before your forced to get a raid card?

Sorry for all the questions, trying to get all the bases covered for a new build

They are very fast. I have 2 300GB Velociraptors in Raid 0 on an intel controller. I have a second raid0 array with 2 X 750GB WD Black drives: Very fast too. I don't have any benchies at the mo as i've just changed my motherboard & GFX. When i've finished my OC i'll look to posting some up.

You need to remember, the more drives you add to a Raid0 array the more chance you have of a total failure of all your data if one of the drives goes down due to sod all redundancy. I won't add anymore drives to my array. 2 of these pups are plenty enough for gaming. Saying that, even one alone is rapid enough for gaming.

Sure 2 VR's would be enough, i have 3x250gb wd re3's in raid 0 an they are very fast. Make sure you do regular backup in place as raid 0 has no security. If you buy 3 drives raid 5 is also an option but again does not have total protection. As already stated the more drives you have the more you risk losing it all (at least to your last backup).

it's hard to use the search function effectively on an iPhone but thanks to everyone for the replies.
Further question-if I had 3 raptors in raid 0 is there's a way I could periodically back all 3 up onto a big 1tb drive and then if one of the raptors failed, replace the failed drive and then transfer all the data of the 1tb drive back to the a 3 disk raid 0 array?
I'm only wanting a raid 0 array for my os/apps/games not for storage so the redundancy thing isn't really a biggy for me anyway

There is nothing wrong with that at all.
Even though I've got a 2x 1TB RAID1 running, I backup to an external 1TB now and store that in a different county. The chances of losing both disks at once is quite low, but all it takes is a break in, fire, powersurge etc and it doesn't matter if you have 20 disks mirroring, you can still lose your data.

Wow hardcore. So how often is your backup? You go all the way to another county to pick it up and bring it home, back up, and bring it back? Or is it done via the internet?

itll be done via the interenet, unless he happens to visit the other country fairly often. Otherwise cost is a big issue. There isn;t much point in it being in another country specifically, just as good down the road in a mates house. Unless of course bombs happen, or nukes, or zombies....although then you probably wont need your accounts/cod 4 profile etc anyway lol

he said county not country... so it could be just down the road at a mates.

I'm looking into these at the minute. I think my hard drive is the only thing badly slowing my machine down at the minute.

Same here. I dont think i need 600Gb for OS and games so if there a fair bit cheaper i will be just as happy with say 2x 150 in raid0? Or is it ideal to get a 300Gb now until i really have the spare cash for another to raid them?
