Pictured on the left is my 2x VelociRaptor in RAID0 on a Gigabyte EX58-UD5
and on the right is a Samsung Spinpoint F1.

My question is: Shouldn't the VelociRaptor's be much faster? It seems they're only running at SATA-150?! I downloaded and installed the GIGABYTE SATA2 RAID Driver (1.17.50.2) but no change...

Running Windows 7 64bit.. drives connected to GSATA 0&1

Ideas?

The Average read in HDTach should be around 210-215MB/s (for 2 x 150GB Velociraptors in RAID0), so yes they certainly are under performing...

Why have you put them on the jmicron contoller (GIGABYTE SATA2), they will perform as they should do on the Intel ICH10R cont (SATA ports SATA0 - SATA5), which is quite superior to the jmicron...

Ah I see... can I switch them to the ICH10R and that's it? I don't want to reformat or anything :)

I should have spotted this when I built the system in June, heh.

What he said. Mine perform around that level too

Get them on the Intel controller. It's all round better!

hi guys i to am having slow burst speed and access time and that with being on the intel controller, also running windows vista 64 bit, and no partion, is that why my slow times,??????? with 32k stripe any advice to get it up to speed

Install the latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver, then run the utility, and enable write caching on the array. It will then use the PC's RAM to cache files which is why you see arrays with such higher burst speeds.

thanks but it was allready using write caching?, does it matter what sata ports ive got them in curently sata 1 and sata 2? tryed enableing and disabling no diffrence in hd tach , hmm weird
