Bought 2 x 600GB Velociraptors here.

I have registered them on Western digital for warranty - however when I register one it says "out of region" if I change my region to the US it comes up with the 5 year warranty.

When I register the other it just says out of limited warranty.

They are both Jan 2011 manufacture date and standard warranty on these drives should be 5 years.

Any ideas what is going on here? Has anyone else put their drive into the warranty checker?

Looks like grey imports from the etailer you bought them from. Warranty does not apply in this country. Ring the company up you purchased them from.

They were bought here...

On that basis would I still be covered?

EDIT

Should stress they work, but one of the reasons I went velociraptor was for the 5 year warranty.

The etailor has imported them from the US, hence grey import and out of region.

If they listed them as having 5 year warranties then they are lying, because technically, they don't with WD.

WD allow you to do one out of region warranty swap per year, which I am currently double checking.

Becasue its a grey import. Its out of warranty because the warranty is not applicable outside the US.
Contact OcUK then. If they say 5 years, then check that they will honour it themselves. Send 5UB a message in the Customer Services forum at the bottom of the forum list.

I had a issue with some Samsung 2TB drives, but OcUK assured me that OcUK would honour the warranty. When you think about it, it is the retailer that your warranty is with anyway really, it is just that it is normally easier to contact the manufacturer directly. I would just drop OcUK an email to confirm.

All that said WD give the raptors a 5 year warranty for a reason, and that is that they last a lot longer than that, being in effect an enterprise class drive sold as retail.
