WD upgraded my 150 raptor x to a 300 velociraptor but it seems to be having some issues.

I set it into raid 0 with my other raptor x. Installing windows was a bit of a hassle to say the least, after the main installation it would sit on the loading bar for around 5 minutes untill i was able to get the intel matrix manager program installed. After that it seemed fine but i wopuld get random pauses and stuttering in windows.

The other day i was dloading a game patch and got an error telling me the c drive was unwritable. Ended up running the wd diagnostic tools and it came up with the error "too many bad sectors". I took the drives out of raid and installed vista to another drive, again ran both the standard and advanced test on both drives seperately and now its not showing any errors at all.

Ive read that the velociraptor seems to have isues with either my mobo (asus p5q) or the intel program, not really sure what t think.

umm just a guess, but isnt raid 0 meant to have 2 or more of the same size and speed hard drives to work properly? (preferably same model) where you had 2 raptor x's, you now have 1 raptor x and 1 velociraptor now??

I enquired about that a while back in this section and was told that the 2 drives would still work but maybe not as effeciently.

Suppose that would answer some questions though considering it seems to be working fine now.

I have exactly your setup.

A word to the wise -- if it starts not recognising disk 2 in your setup, install a normal hard disk as well (just any old cack 40gb thing) ABOVE the raid setup, and it will stop that problem happening.

Alternatively keep attempting to boot until it eventually lets you into Vista, click on the red exclamation mark down the bottom right, and click a box which says 'Mark as Normal' that appears. Goodness knows what that means or does, but will sort your problem (er .. for a while .. until it happens again!)
