Velux Blind for reducing Solar Gain

Hello!

We have a LOT of heat coming in through our south facing extension - and I'm looking for information about the best bang for buck solutions for controlling heat through our Velux windows.

We have
2x GGL SK01 sloped windows
1x CFU 060060 flat window

I think for the flat window we'll likely go for the blackout blind (DSUY 060060 4550WL) because it looks a bit more substantial than the anti heat one. The anti heat one (MSU 060060 5070wl) seems to have a white net blind that I'm not convinced will keep the heat out. Unless you know differently?

For the GGL Sloped windows I could shell out over £600 per window for the external shutters but really don't want to (and it's not hot all the time here). Instead I'm thinking of the internally mounted Solar Energy Blind (FSC SK01 1045K) and just opening the window to let out heat.

Do any of you have experience with this problem and what did you find worked best for you?

Thanks!

If you're truly looking at reducing solar gain then you'd be better off getting the external shutters where possible because if the heat doesn't get through the window then you won't get the solar gain. Whilst the internal blinds will reduce things slightly since the heat is allowed to pass through the glass then you'll get that gain regardless.

As for the black and white question, white will reflect heat similar to how you see a lot of whitewashed buildings on the continent e.g Spain / Greece as it'll keep the building cooler in the heat of the summer.
