Hi I just bought a A64 system - and I've got a venice 3200 that can run at 2.7ghz, is it worth upgrading to a opteron that runs at 2.8ghz?

I'm running an Opteron at 2.75Ghz. The extra 512kb L2 cache normally makes a 2-5% difference really.

lol, hello mate I bought the venice off you - havent even tried it yet and already upgrading lol - nah I dont think i'll be upgrading seems a waste of money to me as the chip I have overclocks well already (or so I hope).

I should imagine it'll clock well. Should be good for some decent clockage. For what the chip does, I wouldn't think it's worth getting an Opty. I got my Opteron to replace a Venice 3000+, which couldn't get further than 2.5Ghz, where the extra 250-300mhz increase + extra cache really did make a difference.

I think the next time I upgrade it will be a dual core atleast.
I do multitask a lot but the prices arent right for me atm.
