Hey Guys,

I host a Vent Server for me and a few mates to play on. We have been using it a good year now however they have always had problems everynow and then.

Just wondered if theres a decent alternative?

Cheers ;)

I used to use teamspeak, but I have always found ventrillo way better than teamspeak. a lot clearer only good if you have a good connection as its VOIP teamspeak uses less bandwidth.

I'd have to go with Ventrilo. The 44hz Speex Codec on it is fantastic! almost like your sitting next to the person your talking to. Also Vent uses less bandwith than Teamspeak.

I like the vent codec better also. It has some better features aswell like amplifying certain people etc.

My cs:s clan always used TS before.
As soon as we went onto vent I could actually hear what they sounded like and could makeout accents etc whereas on TS everyone sounded similar.

A lot of it depends how the server is setup as well. A default Vent server sounds just as bad as TS. But both can sound almost perfect. I do believe TS uses a lot more bandwidth for the same quality though.

At the end of the day it is really down to personal preference. I've been using Vent a lot recently after spending a long time using TS and honestly I've found Vent to be much better. It lags less, people have less problems with it, it uses less bandwidth and it almost always sounds better. TS looks prettier though! Thing is, if you ask another random person they will either entirely agree or say the exact opposite!
