Versus XIII may go multi-plat.

Difference is; you're in the minority for thinking FFX was terrible, it's been very well received. I actually feel it was a better game than FFIX and possibly even on par with FFVIII.

X-2 however is generally agreed to be shocking.

Agreed, FF7 > FF8 > FF10 > FF12 > FF9

Not sure where i place 13 yet, I enjoyed it. But sold it before gettin into the real story or before doing a lot of the end mission.(Due to cash flow not lack of enjoyment) Also I enjoyed FF11 too, but its a different game so i dont include it in the list. FFX-2 Should just be burnt on purchase

What kind of game will Versus XIII be?

Is it more or less the same as XIII but with more/varied content?

By all accounts the fighting styles are more like Kingdom hearts. And its set in a more modern standing. There was talk in the other thread for FF13 if it could possibly be set on the same planet, just in a different time period to FF13. A prequel, Not in story just in the world its in. As you can tell later on in the FF13 that the world you're exploring did used to be similar to a modern society, A society similar to those shown in the FF13 versus trailers I think. But...All that is just guess work and conjecture :p

FFX was pretty terrible TBH so 'Squaresoft' were just as capable of making bad Final Fantasy games in my opinion. But I agree I doubt we'll ever see a truly epic Final Fantasy again. :(

They'd be silly not to go multi platform in this age, and I can't see Sony paying to keep this exclusive.

FFX was awesome. I would rate it my 2nd fav after 7, closely followed by 8,9 and 12. Haven't played pre 7 so can't comment on them :D

Im actually attempting to play the very first Final Fantasy. And I have to be honest...I dont know why but im finding it somewhat fun. If i try and play zelda, or Illusion of time, or any of the other older RPGs, I just cant get into it. But the first final fantasy, Even though its very simple. I find myself enjoying it :D

I think you are wrong about this. XIV will attract a lot of people when it comes out. The alpha is going really well at the moment and they are listening to the feedback and changing things all the time.

XI was a success as far as SE are concerned. I believe it had around 500k subs at its peak which although doesn't come close to the success WoW has had isn't too bad for an 8 year old game.

I actually had XI and that wasn't impressed at all,

Because a lot of people buy into the game because it is named Final Fantasy, Does not make it a good game, I'm willing to bet a lot of people bought X-2 and that was horrid.

PS3 version was not ready when they started porting it to the 360 imo, Why would they sit on a complete game ready to go to press on the ps3 for months and not release it? MS can't have given them that much ££.

Maybe because that way they do not have to spend double on marketing the PS3 version first and later the 360 version but can do it in one big marketing campaign?

PS3 version was nearly done, M$ came in and it was then quickly ported over to 360.

digitalfoundry-final-fantasy findings on game differences and why.

It's not a prequel, more of a 'standalone' game using the same mythology, Fabula Nova Crystallis. Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII each use a common mythos about the tale of a crystal.

The story, characters, and settings will have not bve the same in each game, but they will use the same mythological backgrounds. Each director of a game is essentially using this mythology and depicting it from their own perspective which makes a compilation of games set in the same meta-universe.

Yep, I'm certainly looking forward to Final Fantasy XIV Online and will definitely be getting it on release day. Unless of course someone kidnaps me and ships me off to a neighboring galaxy. :(:p

I don't think Final Fantasy XI Online was ever going to be as successful as a game such as World Of Warcraft, primarily due to the sort of game Final Fantays XI is. It is heavily focused on grouping with other players, parties usually consisting of six characters including yourself and depending on your view point, this is either a good or a bad thing. In my opinion, the fact that you had to group with a number of other players to achieve things was one of the main reasons I enjoyed the game so much. It's by far one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had.

Square Enix has made the game slightly more solo friendly over the last couple of years with things like Fields of Valor (FoV) and have made it slightly easier to group with others due to the introduction of Level Sync. All though, whilst the game is still very much active, the majority of players are of a very high level but I think that's expected due to the age of the game.

From Square Enix perspective though, Final Fantasy XI Online has been very successful. :)

Why? Then you get a ton of games that don't make full use of either platform.

Well said.

Apparently it'll be a completely different genre; action-RPG. Everything i've read says it'll be like Kingdom Hearts.

Cool... I'm not really sold on the whole JRPG grindathon style of play... need some variation and adrenaline rush moments :p

Epic first post  welcome to the forums!

Glad there's another person on the forum that enjoyed it as much as I did :)

The level sync was a great idea and solved a lot of the grouping problems. Should be a lot more lvling to do as well with the cap being put up to 99. Should tide people over till XIV :D

In a way, Versus could still count as a prequel. The mythology is common for the Fabula Nova Crystallis compliation with regards to crystals, but there could still be connections with the overall world/universe and different time periods.

When you look at all the related games to do with Yasumi Matsuno's world of Ivalice, it could pretty much be the same thing.

Like it has been suggested that Final Fantasy XII was thousands of years before Final Fantasy Tactics, and Vagrant Story being more recent in the timeline.

I enjoyed FFXI over the 5 years i played it but it just got old, especially when it took them over a year to release HALF of the Wings of the goddess missions i just gave up.... I am eagerly looking foward to FFXIV though!

I'll probably get Versus too but as far as im aware it's still a long way until release.

People should just get used to assuming that basically all third party titles will be multiplat. It just doesn't make sense for a developer to stay single platform unless they get a very large payoff from ms or sony.

*cough*MassEffect*cough*GearsOfWar*cough*AlanWake*cough*

Oh well, at least we know who thinks they can spend their way to success :p
