I just decided to check the alignment of my Vertex 2 drive so followed this guide:

To check the alignment of your SSD's partition, it is quite simple.

In windows 7, run msinfo32 by typing it into the search box on your start menu and hitting enter.

click on: components => storage => disks

Look for your SSD and check the partition starting offset.

It needs to be divisible by 4096 (ie return a whole number when you divide by this) otherwise the alignment is not correct.

and mine comes out with an uneven number at the end. How can I re-align it?

Thanks

Neil

There are numerous alignment tools. I use Paragon Alignment Tool.

By the way, a much easier way to find out the alignment is to run AS-SSD (no need to run the actual benchmark, just start the program). It'll either say "OK" in green text in the top-left corner or "BAD" in red text.

As someone without an ssd, they do seem like more hassle than they're worth. How many utilities does it take to make a harddrive work properly ?

Last time I checked the alignment was perfect but i did a clean install since so just want to correct this then it should stay ok

UPDATE, I must have miscalculated.

Checked using AS SSD and it shows it's aligned correctly, retried doing the manual calculation and it worked out correct!

Thanks all.

By the way, is there a free tool for re aligning the SSD if windows is already installed. Similar to the Paragon app but free?
