Vertex 2 not recognised in BIOS ?

I have bought a 120GB Vertex 2 but when I connect it to a SATA port the BIOS will not see it, the machine hangs a while before the BIOS.

I have tried different ports, setting mode from IDE to AHCI, only connecting the SSD, resetting BIOS and now I am lost.

Should there be an issue with my old MSI Neo2-FIR P35 mobo even though it has SATA-II ports?

What else can I do or is it RMA time?

is there a little green light on the sdd when powered on? also do u have any other sata cables to try and try different sata ports
Didn't notice any light, I will check.

I tried three different cables on three different SATA ports, neither worked.

Edit: There is a light inide the SSD that is on, it just isn't recognised in the BIOS so can't do anything.

I would look for a BIOS update given your having problems in both IDE and AHCI mode. Then start with enabling AHCI mode and disable quick boot also.

Updated the BIOS, doesn't help
Disabled Quick Boot, doesn't help

Enabling AHCI I will try tomorrow as I am knackered, thanks for the help so far.

It should not be this difficult should it, it should be just plug and play :confused

Yup it really should be plug and play mate. Im running mine in IDE mode but it was picked up straight away. Maybe it's DOA but don't be put off by that as they are good SSD's.

Well as far as I know they have to be sent to the Netherlands so at least it will be a cheap RMA :) If the controller chip does not get power or becomes damaged then the SSD does not exist as far as the BIOS is concerned. It happens with the best of SSD's but stick to OCZ.

Hmm that is strange I have just had the same problem! My OCZ has been working fine for a bout a week and I go to boot up my PC today and it just hangs and can't find the SSD in bios/windows etc. So it looks like mine is also dead? :p

Like I said it has been working fine all week plug & play and then I just go to boot up my PC this morning and it's dead :p

Ditto. Mine has been working without a hitch for 6-9 months. Then switch it on this morning and nothing. Cant even find it to format it and start again.

Oh well, guess its RMA time.

Are you RMA'ing through Overclockers or OCZ directly? I've contacted OCZ directly but it doesn't look like they cover the cost of P&P which might be a fair bit for recorded to The Netherlands.

I tried to contact OCZ directly but they havent been much help. So I contacted Overclockers and they were spot on, sent me a RMA straight away. I think we have to pay to send the item back to them which isnt great but at least its in the UK.

I contacted OCZ and the webshop and turns out I can send it to the webshop for evaluation, if the drive is faulty they will even reimburse me the postage and send a new one.

Left a webnote before and had a pretty snappy response! Looks like I go pop back in to sort out a replacement :) Going to give it a final check over tonight with some other SATA cables I nabbed from work, I have already tried it with other SATA cables but they weren't brand new ones.

One thing I will do when I get a working one up and running is to make a regular backup of Windows 7 with Acronis True Image.

Got very swift response from OCUK. Tested the day they received it. Confirmed it's dead and it's been sent off to OCZ for repair/replace. Anyone know how long that normally takes?

Got my replacement Vertex2 yesterday, good service with a replacement within a week.

Connected it and was found straight away, installed Windows 7 x64 and I must say it is fast but not as fast as I expected.
I do think that my system is running in IDE mode, would it be a lot faster if I changed to AHCI mode and will that also work with XP as I have a dual boot setup?

What program can I use the best for checking the speed?
