Hi guys,

Assembled my computer today and got everything up and running, windows running off the hdd.

I have a new vertex 4 that will hold the os, but installed on the hdd so I can do the firmware update.

However when I plug it in, it simply isn't being recognised. I have swapped the cables for known working ones, and checked in computer management, no luck.

Any suggestions?

Not sure what you mean by Computer Management.

Have you looked for it in Disk Management?

It should show therre as a drive with unallocated space and it will need formatting.

If you're going to reinstall Windows on the SSD then don't worry about it.

Disconnect the HDD, set the SATA mode to AHCI in the BIOS, install Windows and then reconnect the HDD.

This may be a silly question, but have you plugged in power from your power supply as well as a SATA cable from the motherboard?

I bumped into a post elsewhere, and it worked for me too.

Disabling the S.M.A.R.T. HDD feature in the bios made the drive show up in disk management where I could initialise it.

Turned I back on after getting the drive up and running and all is well.
