Vertex raid0

Im sure many of you have seen the offers OCUK have on the OCZ 1st gen drives atm.

I already have a 120gb in my system and it's serving me very nicely - my question is- with them as cheap as they are atm, is it worth getting a second for raid 0?

No TRIM with RAID mate so only you can answer that

Also the first gen have a different controller. Buy two of them and RAID them

My drive is a 1st gen - they'd be identical!

Im so very tempted.. 500mb/s reads... ooohoh

Go for it man !! OcUK have the best prices in the UK on these SSD's right now !! No TRIM mind but that can be done through software.

Yeah.. It's still quite a lot of money. Has anyone out there done a raid0 of SSD's and can say what improvement they saw over a single one?

I have been messing abour on raid 0 with 2 original vertex and I have found it a real pain to get any performance improvement in fact I have degredation.

If I install the array not as a windows drive then I push abour 410 mbps read on the array as soon as I install windows on it my performance ranges any where from 180mbs to 220 mbs which suck when I get 220 on one drive. Not sure what is going on have tried manually aligning, different stripe size, different sector size and a combination of all the above but cannot seem to retain the performance on a new install.

ah ok, cheers for the reply. Ill stick with one then and get a vertex 3 at a later date or something.
